Full contemporary red straight-grain morocco, single gilt filet on covers and flat spine, gilt title on spine, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. All edges gilt, with a colored painting of Plymouth and its harbor hidden under the gilt fore-edges. Spine darkened, else a very good copy. Bookplate of the Rev. C.B. Pearson on front pastedown.

New York: Firth, Pond, 1858. First edition. 4to. 5 pp. Music only. At head of the front wrapper: "Cordially Dedicated to Cyrus W. Field Esq. of New York / by the Publishers." Field (1819-1892), American businessman who started the Atlantic Telegraph Company, led a group of investors that financed and laid the first transatlantic cable that was completed the year this march was published. Original illustrated wrappers (Lith. by Sarony, Major & Knapp, N.Y.), featuring an oval portrait of Field flanked by an array of national flags, a cross-section of the telegraph cable, with key, above the portrait and ships on the sea below, all enclosed within a thin-rule border. Disbound from a volume of sheet music, soiled, and top edge trimmed (taking the top half of the first line of the dedication).

Palatka, FL, 1893. Postcard sized business card, measuring 5 x 3 1/2 inches, printed on stiff green card stock. Illustration of a steamer from the Hart's Daily Line of boats. Verso gives distances from Palatka to various stops in Florida; agent's name stamped across top. Very good. The Ocklawaha Navigation Co. was established in 1860 and incorporated in 1888. "Accomodations for Speed, Comfort and Safety Unsurpassed." Three steamers are listed, the Okeehumkee, the Astatula, and the Osceola.

[Springfield, MA, 1814. Broadside, 29 x 18.5 cm. Two odes, printed in two columns, with typographical border between the columns, and at the head and foot of text. Unevenly torn along top edge, just touching typographical border; some old spotting. Old repair on verso, using old paper, of a long tear across text, affecting a few letters but without loss. First line of the first ode: "Descendants of the patriot band;" first line of the second ode: "Columbia's Father ! here to-day." OCLC lists one copy at Brown, but for the year 1813.

New York: Published by Calvin Blanchard, 76 Nassau Street, 1860. First edition. 8vo. (3), 4-88pp, (4) ads. Printed green wrappers. OCLC- Huntington, Lib. of Congress. Newberry, Amherst, Brown, Sam Houston State. The author, Karl Reichenbach, a chemist and industrialist retired from business in 1839 and "entered upon an investigation of the manner in which the human system is affected by various substances, and was led to conceive the existence of a new imponderable agent, allied to electricity, magnetism, and heat, which emantes from most substances, and to the influence of which different persons are variously sensitive." His research included the study of animal magnetism and the works of Franz Anton Mesmer, although he ultimately developed his own hypothesis of magnetic emanations or auras which he termed "od." [see his short biography in the "New American Cyclopedia," by George Ripley & Chas. A. Dana (NY: 1862), Vol. XIV, p.20.].

Single sheet, 28 x 21 cm., approx. 100 words, signed in type by Powers Land & Loan Co., Lawton, Oklahoma. The brief letter addressed "Dear sir," offers to sell 320 acres close in to Lawton which "would be a choice suburban farm home that in a short time will be worth $100 per acre." It advises the client that the next excursion to the area would be on Sept. 18, and to please advise by return mail. Old fold lines, else very good.

8vo. and 4to. 5 pages total, approximately 375 words. Folded, but very good. In the first letter, Manly expressed regret that he missed Cameron on his last visit to Raleigh and thanked him for "two boxes of sheep ... the whitest & prettiest lot of ewes I ever saw." Shortly after the Civil War, Manly requested a loan of $1500 from Cameron offering a house and lot in Raleigh as collateral; the former governor had fallen on hard times and needed the money for the "annual expenses of my poor afflicted daughter at Mount Hope Institute [for the mentally ill] at Baltimore ... if you can prize me out of the dead lift you will greatly oblige me." Cameron (1808-1891), a planter in Orange County, served as president of the state agricultural society, director of the Raleigh & Gaston Railroad, trustee of the University of North Carolina, and was one of the largest slave holders in the state before the Civil War, reputed to have employed 1900 in the 1850s.

8vo. 2 pages, approximately 150 words, in part: "As to the amt that can be realized for the property it is hard to answer. The lot 30 has two Negro Cabins on it. The lot 261 is in Swamp and will require filling before being suitable for building on." Perry rose from private to brigadier general fighting for the Confederacy, commanding the 2nd Florida Infantry as colonel from 1862 and an all-Florida brigade at the battle of Chancellorsville. While he was governor, Florida adopted a new constitution which "represented the regression to racial discrimination which was occurring throughout the South in the post-reconstruction period" (Wikipedia). Old fold lines, but very good.
