Printed Bill Head measuring 8.5" x 4.5" O'Brien was located at Skillman St, between Myrtle & Park Avenues and 192-194 Henry St. The bill is dated March 9, 1866, to a Mr. O. Gorman, and states that this is for "Mason work...repairing iron shutter...& galvanized gutter. A nice example.

Quarto; pp; 412, (ii), ad leaf; Profusely illustrated, many black and white photographs, color plates from watercolors by E. J. Read and Gordon Grant and a folding color map; full black pebbled leather covered paper boards lettered in gilt, marbled end papers. A good or better copy. Wear to extremities, leather separating but still intact. Internally very good. Building the Panama Canal was the greatest engineering feat of all time. From the first French efforts through the American completion, an amazing story. Theodore Roosevelt considered the Canal his greatest achievement.

Octavo; pp. x, 166; Frontispiece portrait of the author, twenty additional black and white photographs, illustrating characters and locations from the poems; terra-cotta cloth, lettered in gilt, top edge, gilt;. This book is great fun. Some of the worst rhymes ever contrived with an occasional flash of brilliance. Reflects life in the Canal Zone at the time of construction. The excitement of the challenge, the circumstances of the life there. Other editions are often dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt, this one is not. Also contains an obituary of the author who died at Colon in 1906. The late author was an official for the Panamanian Railway.

There is descriptive text fully describing the insects in German and French, and a copy of a title page, in an envelope attached to the back of the mat. Exquisitely colored and finely detailed. This print is matted with acid free materials and shrink wrapped. The plate is not hinged, but is floated with acetate corners. Quite scarce.

This print is matted with acid free materials and shrink wrapped. The plate is not hinged, but is floated with acetate corners. This print has a few spots and a faint smudge in the background. There are reflections of the room in the shrink wrap which distort the photo. The print is uniform in condition with the few flaws noted. Quite scarce.
