Lima, Peru: Andean Air Mail & Peruvian Times, (1979). Stated 1st Peruvian edition. Text in English. A study of the enigmatic Nasca / Nazca lines and geoglyphs of Peru. Signed by Duncan Masson, an early explorer and amateur archaeologist who first encountered the lines as a teenager in the 1920s while living in Ica. Masson studied the mystery for the rest of his life and guided a number of official archaeological expeditions in the 1950s and 1960s. Signed as "D. Masson" in Ica in 1981, with an inscription "from the boy on page 24." A youthful Masson is pictured on that page in the Model T he used to explore the lines. The author's preface acknowledges Masson, and he is mentioned several times in the text. Paperbound. Approx. 9.5 x 6.5 inches. 208 pp., index. Inscribed to Adolph Elwyn (1888-1955), noted American embryologist and neuroanatomist. vii, 136 pp. Decorative 12mo hardcover. Green cloth spine and printed paper boards with a whimsical representation of the Greek god Pan. VG with moderate wear and signs of age. Bumped corners, some spotting of the page edges, but a sound and attractive copy overall.

It shows the narrator of the classic 1842 tale seated before his inquisitors. Part of a DePol series commissioned for a 1991 limited edition book of 150 copies. This print was evidently part of a small overrun and was never bound into a book. Signed in pencil by DePol. Professionally matted and ready to frame. DePol has also written "Bowne/Poe 6/90 X1" in pencil in the print margin. (Concealed under the ivory-color matting.) Matted size is 11 x 14 inches. Sheet size is 8.5 x 11 inches. Passau: Oberhausmuseum, 1992, 1st edition. An exhibition catalog of work by German artist Renate König-Schalinski (1942-2011.) Signed by her with a brief inscription. Sculptures and paintings shown in 1992 at the Oberhaus Museum in her native city of Passau, Germany. Illustrations in b&w and color. Pictorial hardcover. 10 by 7 inches. 69 pps. Introductory text in German. Near Fine. Clean and unmarked. König-Schalinski was a sculptor, painter, and enamel artist. She is best known for her large-scale public installations, including the 1987 bronze "Europa" in Passau (shown on the cover of this catalog.) Other well-known pieces in bronze, metal or stone are in Munich, Bonn, Santiago de Chile, and elsewhere.

A brief essay by John Esten Cooke, a popular Southern author who heard Poe lecture shortly before his death in 1849. Written in the mid-19th century but published for the first time in this edition. In Cooke's view, Poe penned "some of the fiercest, most savage, and most unfair literary criticism ever published." Binding is sturdy but with moderate wear and a good amount of fading, as shown. Spine is aged to a warm brown; covers are unevenly faded. Small number "57" label on the front endpaper, but no other ownership marks.
