A portfolio by Sore Dove Press of San Francisco celebrating Lawrence Ferlinghetti's 2007 poem "Pity the Nation." There are two letterpress copies of the poem in different formats, each signed and numbered by Ferlinghetti. There is an envelope of 8 photographs of Ferlinghetti with the artist and publisher, Soheyl Dahl. There are original signed paintings by Dahl. There is a bound copy of the email correspondence between Ferlinghetti, Dahl, and the printer regarding this project. Both Dahl and the printer, Bill Roberts, have signed this packet of correspondence. <br /> <br /> This is copy #3 of the portfolio, and belonged to Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press.

Havana: Francisco Rojo Garcia, 1940. Single sheet. 25 1/8" x 35 1/4", folds into 5" x 8 3/4" printed covers. Map and folder show very little wear. There is some light browning to top left margin of the map from its adhesive attachment to the covering folder, which affects the edges of two border vignettes but not the map itself.. Color map, monochrome vignettes. A very attractive map of Havana, printed in blue and yellow, bordered photographic vignettes of important buildings and sites in monochrome. Reverse has a complete road map of the Island of Cuba in black and white. Folder covers printed in color with the seal of the City of Havana, flags of the United States and Cuba, and a welcome message to "Friends from the North." A wonderful souvenir from the heyday of Cuban tourism from the United States.

Recollections of 13 men and women who devoted their lives to one of Maryland's oldest medical institutions--the Church Home & Hospital facilities located at Fayette Street and Broadway in Baltimore. It was in one of the buildings now owned by the corporation that Edgar Allan Poe died on October 7, 1849. Bound in dark green cloth over boards with spine and upper board stamped in silver foil. Shallow wrinkle to edge of cloth at head of spine, jacket has a closed 1.25" edge tear with associated creases at top of rear panel, a shallow chip at same location, a short edge tear at bottom edge of front panel, and a few other light extremity rubs. . Jacket in Mylar protector.

A few spots of foxing to endpapers. Minor edgewear to dust jacket, and a nickel-sized sticker stain to lower edge of rear panel.. The first collection of poems by this important but obscure Welsh wartime poet. Lynette Roberts was born in Argentina to Welsh parents, but lived her adult life in Wales. Her work began to appear in magazines and anthologies in the early 1940s, and was admired by T. S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas, Robert Graves, and others. Eliot, as editor at Faber, published this first collection of her poems. Roberts withdrew from writing following her divorce in 1948 and a religious conversion. Scarce.

Both volumes are bound in brown cloth over bevelled-edge boards with gilt-stamped spines and upper boards. First issue copy has minor edge bumps and light rubs, with gilt remaining bright. Second issue copy has minor edge wear, prior owner bookplate, and some darkening to gilt. Both books have sound hinges and endpapers..
