This may have been the same Victor Bonsall who taught Latin, Greek, and English at Trinity School, New York, from 1903 until his retirement in 1947. Scarce. Watford, Eng: Paget Prize Plate Co, 1894. Fine. 1 sheet 12 x 9 cm. Printed in red and brown. "18 x 24" stamped on the label indicating the size of paper the label accompanied. The label is undated; Paget gelatino-chloride printing out paper was first produced in 1894. In the 1890s Paget's printing out paper was very popular with amateur photographers and continued to be produced into the early 20th century. In Fine Condition: clean and bright.

S.l.: s.n., 1890. Very Good. A pair of Victorian die-cut pop-up cards with similar design. One has the message "To my Valentine" and the other "With best Wishes. The messages are on the lower part of the card within an embossed floral border; when the cards are open, the messages are not visible. They each are composed of many embossed, die-cut blue flowers. When open, a pink tissue-paper flower opens in the middle. The Valentine card has a windmill outlined with flowers. The Best Wishes card had two white doves within a mass of blue and pink flowers. There is no publication information. It's possible that these were hand-made or designs for cards to be commercially produced, given the plain backing section on each card. In Very Good Condition: the Valentine's card has 2 small archival repairs; minor loss at upper edge of flowers on the Best Wishes card; clean.

The recipient, Thomas Ridgway (1874-1943), was also an active supporter of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and was writing a biography of actor Edwin Forrest when he died. With a striped dress and a hat with feathers. A cardboard stand is attached to the back of the doll. On the back of the dress is printed: "Wholesale and Retail Millinery, J. Peterson, 614 & 616 Penn St., Reading, Pa." On the back of the doll is printed "Copyrighted" without a date. No information has been located about the milliner J. Peterson. A scarce example of advertising for a milliner in Reading, Pa., in the late 1800s. In Good+ Condition: the head has been reattached archivally; lacking one of the tabs for attaching the dress; hat is slightly rubbed; clean and bright.
