Description:
(Voir en bas pour la traduction en français.) Rare collection. This set of periodicals was originally bound for the library of one Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), Officer of the Order of Canada and archbishop of Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He was awarded the honour of the OC for his work in the western provinces on behalf of French Canada. The binder was the Montréal-based Reliure Deshaies & Associes. The present listing includes 11 bound volumes of periodicals, in orange/brown hardcover, which contain an estimated 16500 pages in total. French language. The sizes vary from 28 - 35 cm tall. Note that there are two gaps in this collection (most of 1962 and 1968). The volumes are, by and large, in Very Good condition. Most of the covers show mild to moderate shelfwear, including but not limited to scrapes and rubbing, and a few are predictably shaken (very thick volumes) but otherwise securely bound without any major defect. Internally, the covers of each issue are generally somewhat… Read More

From dust jacket (Googletrans):
Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Egypt: the titles of the chapters of this album immediately evoke images of violence, heartbreaks, armed conflicts... Charles Luke Powell has deliberately chosen to show only the beauty of these lands. An exceptional serenity permeates, like a light, his photographs: grandiose landscapes, lands and lives on the margins of time, ancestral gestures. First Edition stated. 306 p. Dust jacket is worn with some edge tears/chipping and price sticker residue. Hardcover book is in Fine condition. From the dust jacket:Berton Roueché writes: "I've read it with enjoyment. It's really quite an unusual thriller—wonderfully muted." When Bob Turbett got out of the cab in front of Mrs. West's, the first thing he noticed was the lawns. He was the man who would have to mow them. It was his summer job, helping out at Mrs. West's in return for room and breakfast while he was study at summer school. The house was an angular gray monster; the woman who opened the door to his ring had eyes that blinked and roamed, and uncared-for hair, held in place randomly. She said she was Miss Summers, Mrs. West's sister. "Mrs. West doesn't feel up to seeing you right now," she said. "You're going to have the room on the top floor. Betty Clay used to have it, but she's a paying guest now, on the second floor." Miss Summers was about to help Bob carry his things up to the… Read More

Description:
Autographed. Presumably first edition. 114 p. Incredibly mild shelfwear with sticker to cover, otherwise Fine. The author was born in Trinidad and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada in the late 1960s. From the back: This collection is a sensory journey from a warm green equatorial island to the changing seasons of a Prairie landscape. The poems explore the effects of colonialism, ancestral memories, and immigration on the poet's journey from youth to maturity. The frantic push for first-world development, rapidly eroding the once-pristine landscape and simple way of life of a third-world island, and creating a new race of colonials, it is passionately delineated."A brave and beautiful collection – at times reflective, at times haunting, but always, challenging us to rethink our ideas of home and our dilemmas of belonging." – Ramabai Espinet

Description:
First Edition. 232 p.; contains index. From back cover: Serial killers like Seattle's Ted Bundy, Maryland's Beltway Sniper, Atlanta's Wayne Williams, or England's Peter Sutcliffe usually outsmart the task forces on their trail for long periods of time. Keppel and Birnes take readers inside the operations of serial killer task forces to learn why. What is the underlying psychology of a serial killer and why this defeats task force investigations? This is the first book of its kind that combines state-of-the-art psychological assessment experience with the expertise of a homicide investigator who has tracked some of this country's most notorious serial killers. The author also brings to the book hands-on best practices gleaned from the experience of other task forces. Readers, both professional and students, will benefit from the comprehensive and critical case reviews, the analysis of what went wrong, what went right, and the after-action recommendations of evaluators in the US, UK, and Canada.
