Folio-sized bifolium (single leaf folded once to make 4 pages). Pages numbered or referenced to as being pages 4 - [6] -- with the unnumbered page "5" being a double-page photo spread. Article by Don Stanley; photography by John and Suzanne Arms. Also prints 8 photographs by E. David Show, "published here for the first time," of Everson after a reading at UC Davis during "his wrenching disavowal of his order, with its pain and passion," which has been "spectacularly caught" in a series of photographs showing him as he walks off the stage and removes his vestments. Near fine with only slight age darkening and minor edge wear. Rare.

Norfolk: New Directions, (1941). First edition. In the New Directions "Poet of the Month" series. Fine in stiff paperwraps in dust jacket. There was also a small simultaneous edition in boards.

Boston, 1870. The Boston boys' school "Chauncy Hall" was founded in 1828 by Gideon Thayer on what is now the site of Macy's in Downtown Crossing, and the "Thayer Association" was their alumni and student organization. Parker House (now known as Omni Parker House) has been a "legendary symbol in downtown Boston since 1855" credited with creating Parker House rolls and Boston cream pie. Diners on this night in 1870 were served "Oysters on Shell," followed by a selection of Soups (including "Mock Turtle") and Roasts of Turkey, "Mongrel Goose" or "Mongrel Ducks." They chose from Entrees of Lamb Cutlets, "Pate Chaud, a la Financiere," "Vol au Vent of Oysters," "Chicken Croquettes," and "Mayonaise of Chicken," as well as from a selection of Game (including "Black Ducks," "Mallard Ducks," "Brandt," and "Prairie Chickens"). Indianapolis: Bobbs- Merril Co., (1913). First edition. Color illustrations by Andre Castaigne and black-and-white illustrations by Arthur William Brown. MacGrath's 8th mystery, the basis for the 1921 silent film "Not Guilty." Fine, bright copy with just a hint of soiling on top edge; in bright, good or better, full wrap-around illustrated dust jacket (including flaps) with chipping on edges not affecting any lettering, and closed tear evident on spine which has been backed with clear archival tape.

(San Francisco: Tales for Travellers, 1982). First edition thus: Number 1 in the short-lived "Selected Short Stories by Great Writers" series devised by James H. Schmidt in 1982 with the intent of providing quality reading material for daily commuters that was inexpensive enough to share. Originally issued in 4 slipcased volumes each of which housed 12 map-folded pamphlets. Most of the individual pamphlets included a single short story though a few had an additional story and/or poem. Each of the 48 pamphlets in the series is 24 pages (including illustrated covers) printed on both sides of a single sheet folded up like a map. Tiny nick and corner crease on back otherwise fine. Cambridge: MIT Press, (1997). First edition. Foreword by Julia VanHaaften. Short essays and full-page pictures of about 180 writers including Allen Ginsberg, Quentin Crisp, Edmund White, Doris Grumbach, Jonathan Williams, et al. Short tear in front endpaper at hinge, otherwise fine in dust jacket.

New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1921. First U.S. edition of the "Play Edition." Jerome was a very popular writer in his time, and his humor still holds up nearly a century later. Near fine with previous owner's name and date on front endpaper and page edges and cloth cover lightly soiled; in dust jacket with tape reinforcement on edges of verso, a few closed tears, one small nick and light soiling. Still, a nice copy.

Caldwell, Idaho/New York: Caxton Printers/Doubleday, Doran & Co., Inc., 1934. First edition. The second book in the Vridar Hunter tetralogy, which also included IN TRAGIC LIFE, WE ARE BETRAYED, and NO VILLIAN NEED BE. About fine in dust jacket with minor edge wear.

In a very good or better dust jacket with a touch of soiling and rubbing, and shallow chipping to spine ends and corners, but otherwise minimal wear.

Thatcher, who covered "The Downing Street Years" in her 1993 memoir, takes us from her early life through 1970, when she was elected Prime Minister, and then covers her life after leaving office in 1990. Small 4to quarter beige cloth with gilt stamping and burgundy blocking to spine; burgundy cloth boards; top edge red; profusely illustrated with black-and-white photographs; 656 pages, including index. Very good with rubbing to burgundy spine block not affecting gilt lettering, and few small scrapes and faint staining to rear board. Housed in original burgundy cloth-covered slipcase showing small stain and few cloth snags but otherwise near fine. Much scarcer than the London limited edition that precedes it.

Sydney: Primavera Press, (1989). First edition, by the 1973 Nobel Laureate. Essays by White on many subjects including his Nobel Prize, Democracy, Nuclear War, etc. Name on front endpaper, otherwise fine in dust jacket with the barest wear but with a few lines of indentation when looked at from a certain angle.
