Description:
Denmark 1997. The exhibition consists of several individual but interrelated elements. The dragon - the most important of four heavenly creatures in Chinese mythology and one of the most widely and variously used Chinese symbols - is a figure that recurs throughout this exhibition project. It appears in different shapes, indoors and well as outdoors. Most spectacularly, there is a gigantic flying kite, in the shape of a dragon, from the lawn of the museum’s sculpture park. Before the dragon kite is launched, it is fitted with gunpowder, which at a given time is ignited and explodes, transforming the dragon into a crackling, fire-breathing creature. A portfolio of sixteen separate photos from the Qiang exhibit accompany this book. , Danish/ English, Year1997, Illust. B/W10, Illust. Color16, ISBN 8790029178, Code 3039. Description:
New York 2005. In O’Brien’s richly detailed biography of Queen Emma, a fascinating portrait of a little-known but remarkable woman emerges. The quintessential monarch, Emma was a political pawn turned master manipulator at the center of Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and Normans all jostling for control of eleventh-century England. From child bride to dowager queen, Emma left an indelible mark on a nation beset by Vikings. Fourteen years after her death, it fell prey to her Norman family when William the Conqueror invaded in 1066., English, Year2005, Illust. B/W1, Illust. Description:
Denmark 2015. Remember the DANSK stores around the U.S., I wonder if you miss them as much I do ? Finally the designer of most of the contents of these stores had a one man exhibition in Denmark, where he is was not well-known. Jens Quistgaard regarded himself more as a sculptor than a designer, however he did practice industrial design, thereby expanding the traditional role of the artist. This exhibition shows how the design of objects and utensils for daily use in the home was achieved with techniques and form language, which heralded new times within design and industrial mass production, whilst still preserving craftsmanship. Several of QuistgaardÂ’s designs and ideas, which today may seem somewhat simple, were actually revolutionary for their time. A symbiosis of innovative design, honesty with regard to materials, and solid craftsmanship are trademarks for his design, which unites modernism, functionality and personal expression. Unlike cool Scandinavian modernism, he would always add a… Read More
