Spanning a period from II century until mid XVII century, the present volume mentions the works of Gregory the Illuminator, Mesrop Mashtots and other key figures in Armenian history. The Armenian Somal was Archbishop of Siuna and General Abbot of the celebrated Congregation of the Armenian monks of San Lazzaro degli Armeni.

Biggs (1822-1905) was an amateur photographer in the Indian army. He was supplied with a camera by the British East India Company in 1854 and appointed Government photographer, Bombay to record architectural and archeological sites from February to December 1855. This photograph is a plate from the publication Architecture at Ahmedabad, published in 1866.

John Gould (1804-1881) is widely considered the greatest and most ambitious of all Victorian ornithologists, combining both artistic skill and beauty and anatomical accuracy. Following in the great tradition of Natural History illustrators, such as Barraband and Audubon, Gould enlisted the services of some of the most notable ornithological artists, including Edward Lear, Joseph Wolf and his own wife Elizabeth to compile the most outstanding and comprehensive bodies of work in this field. Comprising of eighteen major works he illustrated the birds of the world, from Asia, New Guinea, Europe, and Great Britain to the Families of Toucans, Trogons and Hummingbirds.

The recipient was Marcelle Sibon, Greene's chief French translator with whom he worked from the late 1940s until his death. Presentation copies of this central work in Greene's canon are not common.

One might imagine genuine presentation copies of Archer's work to be common on the market, but in our experience copies with proper associations are scarce.
