Description:
Oregon: Story Line Press, 1999. First Edition. 8vo, publisher's original lavender cloth over boards, in the original dustjacket. 185 pp. A lovely copy in the dustjacket. “QUIT MONKS OR DIE! is one fine debut mystery, all the more remarkable for its coming from the pen of one of the best poets of this or any other generation. Once again, Maxine Kumin has delivered the goods: an irresistible, intricate narrative, characters as lifelike and affecting as the folks next door, themes as timeless as the sun-baked landscape itself, all of it done in prose as crystalline and evocative as we might expect from the winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Find a comfortable chair before you start in on this book-it is yet another triumph from one of our most valued writers.”-Les Standiford
