Description:
New York: E. P. Dutton, (1978). First Edition, stated. Oblong quarto, russet cloth (hardcover), black letters, [38] pp. Very Good, with small former-owner signature to upper corner of ffep., and light foxing (age darkened spotting) to endpapers; in a Very Good+ dust jacket with light foxing. From dust jacket: A ship coming safely home to Nantucket Island was a great event. So great that the captain’s wife might giver the person who first brought her the news a silver coin. Rachel Starbuck wanted more than anything to be the one who was sent with the news. But so did her brother Obadiah. And he was older. And bigger. And a faster runner. And Obadiah said a girl would not be chosen. What happened when the Speedwell was sighted makes a fine story. It will be enjoyed by the many, many Obadiah fans and make new ones for his stout-hearted sister Rachel.

Description:
Ormond Beach, Florida: Tomoka Press, 1997. First Edition. Edition Limited to 1,000. Signed by the Author. Quarto, paperbound (photo. illus. tan wrappers), 106 pp. Very Good, with lightly bumped corners. From Introduction: Once upon a time, on an annual basis from 1903 to 1910, the state of Florida was projected into naitonal and even international prominence by a single winter event -- the automobile racing tournaments held on the Ormond-Daytona beach. And as benefits any story that begins with “Once upon a time,” fairy tales about these events begin to unfold, evolving from fact into fancy as the years rolled by. It didn’t happen right away. For years historians were content, when recalling the annual tournaments, merely to recite the many world speed records that were set on the beach. Then, as the racing men who participated in these races began to die off, the fables began.

Good, with rubbing to edges and spine; interior clean & tight. Photographs gladly provided upon request. “Ragman was going home with his funny old cart full of rags. It had been a busy day for Ragman because spring was coming and people wanted to get rid of their old winter clothes. Ragman was very happy. He sang a little tune. It was one that Mimi knew very well. Mimi was Ragman’s horse. She pulled his funny old cart. She wore a little red stocking cap on each of her ears to keep out the flies. And she wore bells on her heels, so that people could hear when Ragman was near and come with their rags to sell. Yes, Mimi had heard RAgman sing that tune before. But it had been a long time ago. She was so happy to have spring here again and Ragman singing that she stopped in the middle of the street and began to… Read More

Description:
New York: Oxford University Press, 1992. Octavo, orange cloth & brown boards (hardcover), gilt letters, xiv, 428 pp. Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket with lightly rubbed edges. From dust jacket: In 1789, when the First Congress met in New York City, the members traveled to the capital just as Roman senators two thousand years earlier had journeyed to Rome, by horse, at a pace of some five miles an hour. Indeed, if sea travel had improved dramatically since Caesar’s time, overland travel was still so slow, painful, and expensive that most Americans lived all but rooted to the spot, with few people settling more than a hundred miles from the ocean (a mere two percent lived west of the Appalachians). America in effect was just a thin ribbon of land by the sea, and it wasn’t until the coming of the steam railroad that our nation would unfurl across the vast inland territory. In Railroads Triumphant, Albro Martin provides a fascinating history of rail transportation in America, moving well beyond… Read More

Octavo, coral cloth (hardcover), illus. of mouse standing on a stool to lower corner of the upper cover, unpaginated, [32] pp. Near-Fine, with light rubbing along upper edge, in a Very Good, mylar protected dust jacket with lightly rubbed edges. From dust jacket: There was a family of mice who lived in a tower, safe from the claws of a terrible cat who was always very hungry and whose name was... Raminagrobis! This is the story of what happened when one day, by a clever trick, Raminagrobis managed to get into the tower.
