Commander and signed "Benjamin L. Marx" and dated June 11, 1945. Benjamin L. Marx was Secretary of Sanford Ballard Dole, President of the Republic and first Governor of Hawaii. This pamphlet records Mr. Marx's recollections of the establishment of the Republic of Hawaii in 1894, the rebellion, and relations with the United States. Two page photo shows the last meeting of the Hawaiian cabinet with Marx and President Dole. In very good condition with slight edge and corner wear, a couple of light tan marks on the rear cover. Protected in a mylar sleeve. A rare, inscribed, historically important Hawaiian pamphlet.

An article and photo about the artist, Jose Cisneros, from a 1948 newspaper is glued in behind the front end paper and causing some browning to the surrounding paper. This copy is limited to 2,000 copies and is inscribed by both the illustrator, Jose Cisneros, (opposite page one) and the designer, Carl Hertzog, on the limitation page.

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1920. 4th Edition . Hardcover. Good Plus/No Jacket. Oblong Folio (12" By 14"). pp. iv, 133, map, 59 plates of ships. Plates of ships fold out. One plate is damaged along the fold out edge with tears and edge pieces missing. Binding is a bit soiled with three small stains on the rear cover. Inner front hinge is cracked but holding strong. Internally the book is clean. A number of ships are marked as "sold" in pencil in the register of ships. Ex-German passenger vessels are listed. Ships are also listed according to size, type, change in names, and ships that have been lost. Fold out map of the world shows fueling stations. Fold out plates of ships are very detailed showing elevations, sections, and plans. Details such as ship specifications, location of rooms and number of crew and passengers are noted. The book is protected in mylar. A very scarce item.
