Description:
This is a unique "Teachers' Edition" of the classic "ROBINSON CRUSOE" - For Boys and Girls by Lida B. McMurry and Mary Hall Husted. 1902; Public-School Publishing Company; Bloomington, Illinois. Illustrated. The book is smaller in size - it measures 6 7/8" tall x 5 1/8" wide. At the back of the book is the poem "On His Island" by William Cowper, as well as the following Appendices: "The Educational Value of Robinson Crusoe"; "Method of Teaching Robinson Crusoe"; and "Robinson in His New Home." From the Preface: "This little book is the result of much experience in seeking to adapt the story of Robinson Crusoe to the literary attainments and educational needs of children in the primary schools. Crusoe is the transition from myths and fairy tales, where the imagination is untrammeled by the 'practical,' to the study of real biography. Those events in Defoe's story that are of doubtful educational value are omitted; but it is believed that the child's interest in the narrative is not impaired thereby.… Read More

Nicely illustrated by Newell with full-page drawings in color on every other page. Illustrated title page. Every page has an actual hole at the center, which is incorporated into the illustration. From a review: "Long before Richard Scarry or Dr. Seuss, an American artist delighted a generation of children and their parents with hilarious, topsy-turvy illustrations and slightly subversive tales told in rhyme. This was illustrator/author Peter Newell. Originally published in 1912, The Rocket Book remains as profoundly enjoyable and incredibly popular as ever. This classic work will delight readers of all ages with the story of how a rocket launched from the basement floor of an apartment building and how it interrupts the day."

The action is based on scientific fact, and much of it may come true before long. The illustrations have been carefully worked out under the author's supervision, and are as accurate as it is possible for 'projected' illustrations to be.
