Description:
This is a pristine first edition of the book club edition of Rachel, Rachel, published by Knopf in 1968. The book was the award-winning third novel by renowned Canadian author Margaret Laurence, and was originally published in 1966. It is about the sexual awakening of a 30-something New England schoolteacher. Its original title was A Jest of God. However, in 1968, the book was made into a film by Paul Newman, and he gave the film the title Rachel, Rachel. The film was produced and directed by Newman, with Joanne Woodward as Rachel. She won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for the role, and it received a slew of Oscar nominations. After that success, Knopf re-released the novel under the name Rachel, Rachel. The dust jacket is unclipped and has the shelfwear you see in the photos. There is a tiny remnant of the price tag on the front endpaper, but the book has not been read.NOTE: My quoted price for shipping OUTSIDE of North America is for surface mail without tracking. Mine are from the first printing. Unless otherwise noted, all are in mint condition.
This one is 'The Racing Yachts', reviewed as "A very good book. Focused mostly on the Americas cup yachts, from the original 1851 race through the turn of the century, and a little coverage into the 1960s, with enough background and details to make each story interesting."

Description:
This is a collection of three books, two of which are by the Canadian engineer and railway historian Robert Legget (1904-1994).
The first is Railways of Canada, a best-seller, originally published in 1973, which tells the story of railways in Canada from the 1830s. This is a heavily illustrated 255-page trade paperback from 1980. Aside from a spot on the side at the back of the book, and the crease to the cover which you can see, it's in perfect condition.
The second book is Canadian Railways in Pictures, which was written by Leggett in 1977. This is the second paperback edition, published in 1985. It is a large trade paperback, 96 pages, with several photographs on every page.
The third book is Canadian Railway Scenes No. 3, compiled by Adolf & Okan in 1986. It includes vintage scenes of CP and CN, photos from the Last Spike Centennial, and the Trans-Canada to Expo '86 Restored Luxury Train.
Also included here are three pieces that were tucked into the larger book: a brochure from O.S. Live Steam… Read More

1. LIEBESTRAUM (Dream of Love)
Calumet Music 1935
Composer: Franz Liszt, Lyrics by Jerry Castillo
Special Hawaiian Chorus by Bob Kaai, Ukelele by Jim Smock
Featuring Harry Kogen
There are several of Calumet Music's 1935 printing of Liebestraum available; this is the only one I can find with Harry Kogen on the cover.
Harry Kogen (1895-1985) was the conductor for the Chicago orchestras of both NBC and ABC from 1928-1948. In the 30s and 40s, his orchestra played for The American Farm & Home Hour, the Sinclair Minstrels, the Club Matinee and The Breakfast Club. He also composed more than 200 songs.
Condition is OK. There is a lot of wear at the edges and the original owner stuck an address label on the front, but that can be steamed off. It's still perfect for framing. And perfectly usable.

Description:
This is an original ticket to the April 28, 1979 concert by The Barbarians, the band formed by Ron Wood to promote his solo album 'Gimme Some Neck'. Neil Young suggested the name to Wood, who originally called it 'The New Barbarians'. It consisted of Wood, Keith Richards, Ian McLagan, Stanley Clarke, Bobby Keys and Ziggy Modeliste and existed for five months.
The Barbarians began by opening for the Rolling Stones at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium on April 22, 1979. This fulfilled one of the terms of Richards' Canadian sentence for drug possession--he had to play two charity concerts in Canada. The next stop was Ann Arbor (2 concerts) and then Cobo Hall, Detroit, which is where this ticket is from.
At this concert, Richards was clearly high. They eventually gave him a bar stool to sit on but he ran around the stage, then off the stage, and did not reappear. Clarke picked up the slack and was utterly brilliant. The Barbarians played another 17 American shows, including one in Milwaukee at which the… Read More

Description:
This is an unread copy of Ready Aye Ready, An Illustrated History of the Royal Canadian Navy, which was written in 1989 by Lt-Cdr Jack MacBeth. It was a best-seller; this copy is from its 6th printing, in 1993.
It is a lovely book, heavily illustrated with photographs, paintings and propaganda art. It begins with the RCN's creation in 1914, follows it through the Battle of the Atlantic and the Invasion of Europe and goes up to the 80s.
176 pages but heavy. Unclipped dust jacket.
It has not been read, or even opened. It creaks when you open it.
There's a small scuff to the dust jacket, just at the edge, and some of that scuff continues to the cover of the book itself.
That is its only flaw. It is otherwise pristine.

Description:
This is a stated first edition of The Real Life of Alejandro Mayta, by the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa. It is a psychological portrait of a modern revolutionary and the account of an old friend's struggle to understand him. The novel probes the long and checkered history of radical politics in Latin America, by recounting the investigation into a failed rebellion led by Alejandro Mayta and a young military officer named Vallejos in Jauja, a town in the Peruvian highlands, in 1958. In each of the novel's first nine chapters, the narrator researches the uprising, interviewing participants in the rebellion and individuals connected to its organizers. This book was a gift; the jacket is price-clipped and the recipient wrote his name on the front endpaper--he later crossed it out, and it is small. There is no evidence that he read it though. There is the tiniest amount of shelfwear to the jacket; the rest of the book is pristine.

PRISTINE 1931 Printing of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm
by Kate Douglas Wiggin
a Riverside Bookshelf Children's Classic
355 pages with 38 Illustrations by Helen Mason Grose
Houghton Mifflin Riverside Press
Delightful reading for pre-teens, this engaging story is also sure to bring back pleasant memories to Rebecca's older fans.
"Talkative, ten-year-old Rebecca goes to live with her spinster aunts, one harsh and demanding, the other soft and sentimental, with whom she spends seven difficult but rewarding years growing up. When two unmarried aunts agree to take in their poor relation, they find that young Rebecca Randall is more than they bargained for. The opinionated youngster is definitely a handful. Rebecca's lively and enthusiastic nature eventually wins over all doubters, but not before she nearly turns the town of Riverboro topsy-turvy."
As you can see, the dust jacket is in terrible shape but it has done its job—the rest of the book is absolutely pristine.

Description:
This is a first edition of Redcoats, written in 1976 by the British Army Colonel A.J.Barker (1918-1981). The sub-title is 'They made America safe for Americans, and Canada safe for Canadians.'
The Redcoats (British Regulars), were known as the Colonial bogeymen—vilified by the British at home, hated by the French and the Indians, and reviled by the Americans. They arrived in America in 1755 and proved themselves to be as adept at European-style warfare as they were at the sniper-based battles with Indians and frontiersmen. And, by weakening the Indians and halting the French expansion from the north, it was really the Americans they were serving. It is an intimate and intricate study of an interesting and influential military machine.

This is a stated First American Printing (1927) of Revolt in the Desert, by the British soldier T. E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia (1888-1925). It was published in the UK in 1926 and is Lawrence's shortened version of The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, which is the account of his experiences while serving as a liaison officer with rebel forces during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Turks of 1916 to 1918.
