Finland: M.G.M., 1942. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Very Good. A Finnish first-screening, A2-sized cinema poster for the movie, Rage in Heaven starring Ingrid Bergman and Robert Montgomery. The film was released in Finland in 1942 and had no subsequent theatrical runs thereafter. Directed by WS Van Dyke II and with a screenplay by Christopher Isherwood. In excellent clean condition, there are pinholes to the corners and some handling wrinkles/creasing to the margins at the bottom right and top left corners. Otherwise in extraordinary condition for its age, VG, and an extremely rare lithograph poster.

London: Bloomsbury Natural History, 2012. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. A wonderful copy of the first volume in the Gonzovation Trilogy. Signed by Ceri Levy, who provides the commentary, and by the artist, Ralph Steadman with accompanying splatter and doodle. Orange-coloured cloth with silver-gilt decoration and titles to the upper cover. Unpaginated, a very large and heavy book weighing in at 2 Kilos approx. In beautiful, unread condition, creakingly tight, minor bump to top corner of the upper cover. The dustjacket is unclipped and has a few trivial creases/rubs around the edges but is otherwise in nice, clean condition. The front flap caught a splash of the artist's splatter at signing and bears, therefore, a small dark spot. Stunningly illustrated, an absolute masterpiece.

London: Michael Joseph, 1968. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. First Printing. The novel upon which the 1970's horror movies WILLARD - and its sequel, BEN - were based. An uncommon title and this is a pleasing copy. IN the publisher's black cloth with gilt titles at the spine. Square and tight with reasonably sharp corners, the most minor of creasing to the spine tips. There is some off-setting from the dustjacket flap to the front endpaper and pastedown and a hint of spotting to the top edge (pages not affected). Otherwise, free from previous owner names, library markings etc and a VG copy. The dustjacket is also in great shape with some tanning to the top edges of the flaps and rear panel but with no nicks, tears or loss of any kind - unclipped and unfaded, a Near Fine, bright dustjacket.

A book about rats and mice as pests. pp. 383, profusely illustrated with charts, diagrams and black and white photos. To the verso of the frontispiece photo there is a red "x" in felt pen to top right corner but otherwise the book and dustjacket are unblemished in Fine condition.

Orion, 2003. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First Printing. Collects the three Inspector Rebus novels Let it Bleed, Black and Blue, and The Hanging Garden in one volume. A Near Fine copy - pushing to both ends of the backstrip. The binding is firm and tight but the text-block has toned with age. The dustjacket is not clipped. Minor creasing along top edge and at the rear panel is a small area marked with may be glue residue from a removed label. Presents well, however, and loosely inserted into the book is a publicity card which has been signed by the author.

London: Arthur Barker, 1975. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The author's first novel. Having created the hugely successful TV cop series, The Sweeney, the author penned this original novel featuring the principal character from the show, Detective Inspector Jack Regan (played by John Thaw who adorns the dustjacket cover). A nice copy, pushed at the crown a little, upper board bowing just a little and there is a faint water-splash mark to top-edge. The jacket is unclipped and a trifle rubbed at corners/spine tips.

A first-screening Finnish film poster for the western The Restless breed starring Scott Brady and Anne Bancroft. the film premiered in Finland 1961 and was not re-released. Standard A2, 40 x 60 cm approx. Full bleed, signed in the plate by the artist. One set of staple holes to each corner but otherwise a C9, Near Mint condition poster - rolled, no other reportable faults, beautiful colouring.

One of 1750 copies, signed and numbered and presented in slipcase which were exclusive to Waterstones booksellers in the UK. Illustrated by Mark Burgess. An unopened copy, still the original shrink-wrap and therefore AS NEW, unread.

Finland: MGM, 1962. 1st Edition . No Binding. Near Fine. First Printing. A vintage, original, Finnish cinema-used poster for the first screening (1962) in Finland of Sam Peckinpah's acclaimed western, starring Randolph Scott (in his last film) and Joel McCrea. The film won the First Prize at Cannes and is nowadays considered as the director's first "Great" movie. The poster names the movie as "Guns in the Afternoon" which was its European title. Approximate size is 23.5 inches by 15.5 inches, standard Finnish A2 format. SIGNS OF USE: Near Fine condition. Unfolded. Pinholes to the corners. Short tear to the right edge (1cm). Handling crease to right side around the tear. Otherwise, in outstanding shape. Bright, clean and vivid. A striking poster for a really great movie. For the best appreciation of condition please study the accompanying photograph which is high resolution.

Finland: Republic Pictures, 1964. 1st Printing. No Binding. Near Fine. An excellent, cinema-used Finnish movie poster for the John Ford classic, Rio Grande. The film was re-released in Finland in 1964 and this poster dates from that theatrical run. The poster measures 40 cm x 60.5cm approx and is in Near Fine condition. Printed by Piirtopaino Oy. Full-bleed. A very striking and colourful poster, wholly illustrated and artist-initialled in the plate. The poster was mounted with glue or paste, however, and so, to the verso, there are 5 glue stains and these do bleed through but fortunately the richly coloured, dark background does obscure them very effectively. Apart from some minor handling creases the poster is in fantastic condition with no edge-wear, nicks etc. Overall excellent, Near Fine condition.

NOT books about needlework but rather the collected scripts of the eponymous BBC comedy series which ran for several episodes in all (1977 through 1979, although the very first episode - Tomkinson's Schooldays - was broadcast as a one-off film in Jan 1976) starring Michael Palin and Terry Jones. Includes, "Across the Andes by Frog" and "Curse of the Claw" among others. 186 pp., laminated pictorial boards as issued. Bumped noticeably at the corners and spine ends but otherwise in Good or better overall condition, free from owner marks etc. The "tanned" paper stock is part of the book-design - i.e. meant to appear as an old relic along with "Tomkinson, Lower IV b" in simulated hand-writing at the top corner of the title page. Edinburgh: Chambers/ Alexander Maclehose & Co, 1935. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. First Edition. A fascinating copy of this well-regarded history of the Stewarts. The book appears to have originally been published by Alexander MACLEHOSE & co, a branch of the legendary Glasgow bookselling/publishing/printing dynasty and it is their imprint which appears at the title page. However, at the half-title there is a tipped-in label stating, "This book is now published by W.R. Chambers and the blue cloth clovers bear the Chambers name at the foot of the backstrip. This suggests that the original block has been rebound in the Chambers covers. Even more interestingly, the impressive Stephen Bone dustjacket has been printed upon the verso of an existing Maclehose dustjacket for a cheap edition of the author's earlier title, Robert Bruce King of Scots (also by Stephen Bone). Hardcover edition of this spin-off book based on the 1970's Yorkshire Television series starring Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale. Ah, Rigsby! The book is in Fine clean condition. The dustjacket is in Good condition only with some sticker-removal surface damage to the front panel and shelf-wear along the edges.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1992. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First UK Printing. Published in collaboration with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation. This posthumous retrospective is probably the most comprehensive to date. Large format, very heavy, 382 pages. Prone to structural dismay due to its weight this is still a Fine tight copy although the covers are now bowing a little. No bumping or creasing at corners or spine tips. There is a print-mark at the fore-edge which was presumably a production error but a Fine copy in unclipped dustjacket.

Finland: Self-published, 1969. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An attractive woodcut by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917-2009), Finland's most influential graphic artist of the 20th Century. An open edition, Hand-signed/dated in pencil in 1969 by the artist (lower right). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 17.25 x 14 inches approx (44cm x 35.5cm approx). Image measures 10 x 7.5 inches approx (25.5cm x 19cm approx). The print appears to be in Fine condition, not examined under frame. The frame has minor rubs at the corners but is otherwise in nice condition.

Presumably published in 1972 but the only publishing info at the colophon is "copyright 1971". 992 pages of the all the football statistics you could wish for, illustrated with photographs (Frank McLintock, Bobby Moore, George Best, the double-winning Celtic team etc). Shelf-worn, dust-stained top edge, corners of the blue, printed wrappers a bit creased but a Good condition copy overall and now quite uncommon.
