Description:
Doubleday, Doran & Company, Garden City, NY, 1938. 9th printing. Hardcover (Embossed Cloth). Very Good+ Condition/Good+. Illustrator: N.C. Wyeth (dust jacket art). A nice, collectible copy of an early printing with the original design for the front cover and spine of the dust jacket. Size: 7.5"-8" - Small Octavo (Sm. 8vo). 870 pages. Text block is tight and unmarked, though the pages have toned with age. Bound in dark blue cloth with a diagonal pattern with starts embossed on the cover and spine and an eagle stamped in bright gilt on the front cover and title in bright gilt on the spine. I would rate this Near Fine, but there is a small (about a quarter inch) cut at the head of the spine (not affecting the title). The unclipped ($2.50) dust jacket (No. 2539-37) has shallow chips at the head and fot of the folds and some small (about a quarter inch) tears at the foot of the spine. The colors N.C. Wyeth's paintings on the front and rear panels are bright. However, there are some…

Printed by J. Crouse, Norwich, 1768. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good- Condition. Book Pagination: xi, [1]-251, [1] p. Missing the errata leaf at the end called for in the University of Cambridge, Trinity College Library copy. Bowmanâs third book, published in one edition. According to the abstract for Michael Talbotâs 2016 article on Bowman that was published in the journal Early Music (Vol. 44:1), âDuring the 1760s Bowman was drawn into Evangelical Anglicanism, becoming a passionate and influential propagandist for the Calvinian doctrine of predestination, for which he argued in several books and pamphlets,â including the present work. His thesis here is clear from the last part of the extended title: to shew in what Sense the Doctrinal Articles of the Established Church were understood by the Reformers, and most eminent Divines before the Restoration; to confirm that Sense by Scripture, and to prove that…

Description:
Printed by Richard Bishop, London, 1649. First Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Binding Copy. Book John Sadler was an important lawyer and constitutional theorist who, among his many offices, at one point served as Oliver Cromwellâs personal secretary. The fact that The Rights of the Kingdom was published in June of 1649 is significant. Charles I had been tried by Parliament six months earlier and was beheaded at the end of the January. Sadler wrote to defend the power of Parliament to try and execute the King through what Parliamentarian historian Paul Seaward describes as âan extended argument that it had always been within the power of parliaments to choose their kings.â Sadlerâs evidence is strongly influenced by his philosemitism (friendly attitudes toward the Jewish people), which informs his understanding of both the past and the future. In his backward look, Sadler traced the English constitution to Hebrew sources…
