Some sunning to the top portion of the rear board and the spine else an exceptionally nice copy, clean throughout.

Four engraved illustrations, 3 with some hand coloring. The bottom corner of the front board is bit worn with some loss to the paper; perimeters of the boards are a bit sunned; previous bookseller pencil notes on the front free endpaper and an earlier penciled price is faintly visible; contents are otherwise clean. A charming book with quite lovely and delicate illustrations. The Oliphant Press was founded by Ronald Gordon who studied under Leonard Baskin and Harold McGrath at Amherst in the 60's and at that time interning at The Gehenna Press. Gordon founded the Oliphant Press in 1966 and his gift is evident even in this early work. Gordon remains active a significant figure in printing and books arts as of this writing.

Light rubbing to the covers; contents clean. A reasonably nice copy of this mid-career collection by Whalen, a significant figure of the Beat Generation and the San Francisco poetry scene. This copy is inscribed to poet, Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore, and was acquired from Moore's estate.

As issued, 18 cards (16 of which have photographic reproductions) in lidded-metal box and suede matte board floor that have been laser engraved. A very nice copy, some cards showing only trivial edge-rubbing. A very fresh set. Bateman writes in the introduction, "At nearly the same time that photography was invented, Spiritualism was being born." 16 Cabinet card sized facsimile depictions of spectral devices are present as well as a signed and numbered title card, and an information card describing this genre of the history of photography. A striking group of photographs perfectly suited to the enthusiast or casually-curious when it comes to Spiritualism, photography, and the ghosts in general.

1887. Beautiful mounted photograph (103 mm x 142 mm) mounted on a card 109 mm x 165 mm. Back is blank. Light soiling only; largely a fresh image; the back has some discoloration at the edges. Alexander M. Calder (1846-1923) was a Scottish American sculpture most known for his hundreds of designs contributing to the sculptural decorations, inside and out of the iconic Philadelphia city hall including his sculpture of William Penn that caps the dome. He entered and won the competition to create Meade's bronze statue; it was completed and unveiled in 1887. Meade had been a commissioner of Fairmount Park and had designed many of its walks, drives and bridle paths. A solid copy; rubber stamped number on the title page as well as a manuscript subject demarcation in heavy pencil with attempts at erasure; light foxing throughout. Gifford was a "tory political writer . . . . By the age of twenty-three, with his fortune spent, he found it expedient to retire to France in 1781 or 1872, and to change his name to Gifford" (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).
