This is a great condition issue of "SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN" - A Weekly Journal of Practical Information in Art, Science, Mechanics, Chemistry and Manufactures from March 29, 1862. The issue contains Civil War content, including articles about the ironclads "Monitor" and "Merrimack." Most interesting is a submission from Lieutenant S.D. Green, Executive Officer of the Monitor, who gives a first-hand account of the battle with the Merrimack. The battle of the Monitor and Merrimack on March 9, 1862 is the first duel between ironclad warships and marked the beginning of a new era of naval warfare. This issue of Scientific American was published only 20 days after the battle. Condition:The issue is in overall great condition with very minimal wear. The pages are crisp and mostly clean with only a few random stains and foxing spots. The front cover has a library stamp in ink at the bottom margin and "53 271" stamped in ink at the top margin. No writing found.

This is an antique copy of "Scraps and Sketches" by GEORGE CRUIKSHANK. Circa 1880's (there is no date of publication stated). Gilt page edges on all sides. The book contains 24 pages of cartoon-style illustrations by Cruikshank done between 1828-1832 (some of which are full-page). Over-sized book that measures 14 1/2" wide x 10 3/4" tall. There are illustrated advertisements at the front and back.Condition:Some light soiling to the covers; the front cover has some small areas where there is "bubbling" under the cloth; worn corners; the left edge of the spine has a couple tiny cloth tears. Tanning to the cloth at the right-hand corners of the front cover, and to 3/4 of the back cover. Tight binding. There is clear tape along the front and rear hinges between the end papers and pastedowns. The pages are in very good condition with only an occasional finger smudge at the outer edge of a few random pages. The rear blank end paper has a small tear at the bottom edge that has been repaired with clear tape.

Description:
This is an uncommon sporting book, "SEAFOWL SHOOTING SKETCHES" by Daniel Higson. 1909; Alfred Halewood; Preston, UK. New and enlarged edition. "Being chiefly a series of adventures on the River Ribble in pursuit of wild fowl - with several additional chapters. A few Notes on Birds, Guns, and Accessories, and on Stringing the Cross-Bow." There is a frontispiece photograph of Higson holding a cross-bow with a facsimile signature.Condition:Some very light soiling to the covers and spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Light tanning to the end papers and pastedowns. A tiny piece of the top paper layer has peeled away near the top edge of the front pastedown. Nice interior - the text pages are mostly clean with only some very light foxing to the frontispiece and title page. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.

The book features a baseball-themed front cover and four full-page illustrations by E.C. Caswell (all illustrations are present).Condition:Light soiling to the covers and spine. There is a light, diagonal crease on the front cover. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are clean with no notable issues found. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.
