A MONUMENTAL WORK OF SCHOLARSHIP first edition folio 4 vols. (bound in 2) lii, 671; 755; 785; 639pp., contemporary vellum, sides with nesting panels formed by blind rules and a large decorative lozenge with strapwork and naturalistic designs blocked in the centre of each board, front joint of vol.1 cracked but firm and tight, else fine copy. Perhaps the best testimony to the learning and industry of the compiler is the well-known observation that the whole body of Latinity, if it were to perish, could be restored from this lexicon"' [Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th edn.].
