The "money" plates, or the color bird and waterfowl plates, all in Vol 2, are bright and attractive, with what light soilage there is at the upper edge not coming close to the picture, with one exception in which there is a fox spot in the inner frame. Wraps. Very Good. Scarce, with no copies located on OCLC FirstServe. N.d., circa 1914, when the fragrance "Un Air Embaume" was first introduced. 8vo. 24 by 21 cm. Unpaginated, 12 leaves, plus tissue guards and wraps, with nine of those being color plates. Rigaud as a parfumier dates back to 1852. At the turn of the century it created and marketed fragrances associated with celebrities of the day -- one fragrance was named after the opera star "Mary Garden" -- and the company might well have been a pioneer in such tie-ins. The company also consciously pursued the Anglo market, and capitalized on the Gallic vogue at the time for things English, by naming a number of its products in English. The company remains in business today, but its emphasis it now on home or ambient fragrances. Fun, colorful and unusual promotion for the Dutch spirits industry and more specifically a drink called "Advocaat". Brightly colored fifties types -- the dowdy Mamie-ish housewife and portly husband, the artiste and Bohemians, the glam movie star, the gangster and general, are depicted in bright colors and superimposed on black and white photos as they are shown traveling to the Netherlands, sightseeing, and visiting a distillery in a droll narrative-driven text in which they are guided by a Rembrandt-era burgher. Some of the illustrations conform to the Fascist aesthetic while somehow transcending such, and with their soft pastel coloring and overall soft focus quality, disarm and enchant. But without floral diaper pattern on endpapers, which here are solid yellow. 8vo. 20 by 13 cm. 231 [8] pp. Moderate wear.

New York and London: D. Appleton and Company, 1920. Hardcover. Good. A. B. Frost and E. W. Kemble. 4to - over 9¾. xxii, 265 pp. 12 full page illustrated plates. The Gift Edition, with (1) on final text page. With many text illustrations of Brer Rabbit, Brer Wolf and the whole cast. Every page of the stories themselves has decorative framing of branches forming smaller cameo compartments with different members of the cast shown in each such frame, and while the decoration repeats itself, there are several templates so there is variety from one page to the next. Green decorated cloth binding has a lot of soiling and dampstain. Wear along edges, corner. Some foxing in the preliminaries, but most text pages are clean. The binding is tight, with new endpapers inserted.

Austria: Heller. Fine. N.d., circa 1900. 108 cards in all, in three blocks, which came from a single, or perhaps, two separate larger production plates. The cards are all King, Queen and Jack, for each suit, and repeated as one might expect in an uncut form. They are very much in the style, pictorially, of a Piatnik deck, with lush color and ornate, literal detail, except these are truly miniature cards, with each card measuring 2 by 1.4 cm! Truly a rarity as well as a novelty.

N.d., circa 1830s. Box is 98 by 76 mm, about 22 mm tall. Booklets are 81 by 52 mm each. Each has 24 pages, plus the two hand-colored plates. Scarce, with only known copies at BNF and BM Lyon. Unknown if these copies include the box. Box with gilt foil sides and edges. Centerpiece on lid of one of the hand-colored cameos, with gilt raised decoration similar but different from that on the individual volumes. Condition: box with full integrity, with moderate wear not detracting therefrom. Booklets no longer fit snugly in the box, and so when stacked, the lid is lifted slightly from the base. Slight starting and rubbing by upper front joint, about 3 cm long. Immaculate within. Gilt ornamented binding is very handsome, with all edges gilt and silk doublures.

Typed manuscript of an acting coach of the Stanislavski school (the Method), clearly meant for publication but no evidence that it ever was. 4to. 29 by 22 cm. x, [1], 129 pp. The manuscript is intended to be a comprehensive text of use to both beginners and advanced, or experienced, actors. Full of exercises, and quite specific in nuts and bolts. Thus the text ranges from the more ethereal philosophical approach to the subject to the practicalities. He sticks to the theater, but makes the point that generally the training offered would serve the actor just as well in other media. We have not been able as of this date to find out anything about the author, but he clearly was an established acting coach in the 1960s, which is when we would date the manuscript. Tuttle also included a glossary of terms. Light wear.

Issued in conjunction with the second filmed version of the Lon Chaney vehicle, a strange tale of three Carnival performers, a ventriloquist, strongman and midget, who join forces in a devilishly ingenious criminal scheme that then goes awry. The second version, a remake of Chaney's silent classic of 1925, was his only talking movie; he passed away shortly after filming the movie. 8vo. 282, [6] pp. The book itself is clean and tight. The rear of the dust jacked is crinkled at its base, with no loss of text, and some other minor edgewear. The DJ is now protected by mylar.
