[Cummington, MA]: The Cummington Press, Christmas 1948.. Quarto sheet, French-folded to four panels. Upper panel illustrated. Soft diagonal crease, otherwise about fine. One of 125 copies printed as Duncan and Wightman Williams' Christmas greeting for the year. The stylized illustration is by Williams and the French text and Duncan's translation are printed in parallel. This attractive item, the prospectus for THE HOVERING FLY, and W.C. Williams's THE CLOUDS .... constituted the sum of the press' output for the year. OCLC locates only eight copies.

Two small duplicate release stamps, some tanning to lower wrapper, a bit of dust tanning in corners of upper wrapper, but very good. Edited by Bernadette Mayer and Lewis Warsh. Founded in November 1977 as a means of communication with the editors' New York friends, with contributions to this issue by Mayer, Ginsberg, Guest, banks, Berkson, Coolidge, Solomon, Howe, Warsh and Rosenthal. It was "...probably the last of the great mimeo magazines since by the mid-80s everyone had computers and all the magazines became perfect-bound with glossy covers so the bookstores would distribute them" - Warsh. [Moscow: State Publishing House of Graphic Arts, June 1932.. Folio (41.5 x 30cm). Typographic wrappers. Heavily illustrated with photographs. Corners a bit bumped, some wear along spine, with split below lower staple, otherwise very good. Founded by Maxim Gorky and published in the Soviet Union from 1930 to 1941 (and 1949), under the general editorship of G. Piatakov. An issue of this innovative periodical devoted to Soviet Civil Aviation. This is the French language edition, translator not identified. "All the visual strategies of the propaganda photobooks, designed by Lissitsky, Rodchenko and others were developed in USSR in Construction, one of the most beautifully produced magazines of the twentieth century" - Parr-Badger. A good copy only: the extreme lower forecorners are a bit creased and occasionally ragged; the front wrapper has the lower extreme fore- corner chipped away and, there is a short tear near the toe of the spine resulting in the loss of the extreme lower spine corner of the lower wrapper and last leaf; there is a small chip in the lower wrapper at the spine crown; there is an 11 cm internally mended tear in the rear wrapper up from the lower edge and another internally mended 7 cm tear in the fore-edge, each with small chips associated; and one panel of the enormous center four panel gatefold is neatly separated along the fold; still, a reasonably good copy of an issue seldom found in ideal condition. [Stonington, ME: The Artist, 1998].. Five panel accordion fold digitally printed paper construction (ca. 15 x 10 cm folded). Mounted between stiff boards with wallet flap and colored floral paper construct on upper board. Some creases to the tips of the delicate hand-cut extremities, otherwise very good or better. A unique artist's book, composed of an accordion fold of five colored hummingbirds in various stages of flight or feeding at differing orientations. With the artist's blindstamped seal inside the rear board, with the legend "Handmade Book of Anne-Claude Cotty, and signed "Cotty '98." A relatively straight-forward but labor intensive work by the accomplished Swiss-born, long-time Maine resident photographer / book artist / sculptor whose works often take on an admirable degree of mechanical and intellectual complexity.

[Np], [nd].. Original multicolor gouache (14.25 x 105"; 36 x 26.5 cm.), unsigned. Very good or better. Matted. Harshberger (1900-1975) was born Frank Macoy Harshberger Jr. in Tacoma, Washington, into an artistically inclined family, the son of a prominent local attorney. Harshberger became a part of Tacoma's artistic community during the early twentieth century, mostly through his sister Kay Harshberger with whom he would collaborate on several publications. Harshberger studied at the University of Washington under Ambrose Patterson and later studied in France at the Académie Ranson under Maurice Denis and François Quelvée. He collaborated with his life partner Holland Robinson on several publications and illustrated sheet music for Robinson's musical compositions" - Cascadia Art Museum. This image is much in the style of his series, A History of Costume (1928-1932).
