Both volumes of this massive work on the University of Pennsylvania are bound in pebbled dark brown cloth and pebbled brown leather with gold stamping on the front and spine, gilt on all three paper edges, the books measure 9x12. Volume I contains a general introduction, a 200 page history of the University and 240 pages of bios of the founders, benefactors, officers and alumni, all indexed. Vol II is 470 pages of bios of 'Sons' of the University or the most accomplished of the alumni. (In case you were wondering it looked like all white males to this date.) Both volumes have heavy wear are around the edges and on the leather, the creases are worn quite a bit, Vol I the front is held on by a thread, interior the binding is fine, interiors of both books are excellent. Vol I is 1901, Vol II is 1902.
