(N.p.), 1919. Pennant printed on silk. An American adaptation of the British naval tradition, there called the "paying off" pennant, this "homeward bound" pennant was custom piece created to commemorate the return home of a deployed vessel. The pennant would have flown from the mast of the ship. Prior to the pennant being added to the official U.S. Navy regulations after World War II, its design and construction followed generally accepted guidelines: a blue field with single white stars covered most of its length, then changing to red over white and ending in a swallow tail. Once docked, it would have then been cut and portioned out to the crew. A novel published toward the end of Dick's extraordinary period of productivity, Ubik presents a world of parallel time periods composed of a reality so tenuous and subjective that it remains highly dubious even at the story's close. In a striking jacket designed by Peter Rauch, the white color of which makes finding a copy in collector's condition challenging. Few spots near spine head, otherwise a fine copy in cloth, with a lightly soiled dust wrapper that is faintly toned along the extremities and shows a bit of edgewear. (Barron 4-140).

Inscribed by Losa on title page to noted Portuguese journalist, Acúrsio Pereira, and dated "1 Dez(embro) 1957." This tale of a dachshund who loses his luxe living situation and experiences a succession of misadventures and other owners before befriending a young boy is the author's third book for children. Her work in this genre would be rewarded with the Prémio Gulbenkian de Literatura Infantil in 1984. A German of Jewish descent, Losa (née Lieblich), fled Nazi persecution in 1934 and settled in Porto, where her brother lived. (Vancouver, B.C.): Heavenly Monkey, 2010. Fukui, Atsushi. Broadside measuring 22 by 15 inches. One of thirty copies—this copy marked "Position proof." Unsigned. With full-page illustration of a hermaphroditic figure, titled "The Botanist," and two smaller text figures of mushrooms, all from drawings by Atsushi Fukui. Sylvian was the former frontman for the 80s New Romantic band, Japan. The poem by Sylvian, and the accompanying artwork became part of an audio-visual installation at the Punkt Festival in Norway in 2011, itself arising from a 2003 genetic study showing the persistent lineage of the native population of the Canary Islands, despite Spanish colonization. An atmospheric piece with intriguing musical crossover, and an uncommon Heavenly Monkey title. Very fine.

Kensington, CA and Washington, DC: Liminal Press + Bindery, 2019. McAleer-Keeler, Kerry. Octavo. 45pp. One of three A. P. copies, produced in addition to the limited edition of fifty. Signed by Laser, who contributed the text, and by Camden M. Richards, who designed and produced the project. Equal parts scholarly essay and experiment in graphic and material design, the book aims to situate the reader within the vocabulary of racial privilege, to guide them toward an understanding of their own position ("White Privilege: If You Can't See It, You've Got It"), and to urge a confrontation with it on terms both interpersonal and systemic. To these ends, it employs a creative array of typefaces, printing techniques, and scanned linocut illustrations by McAleer-Keeler. Bound in flexible covers, saddle-stitched and held with an elastic ribbon, to which is affixed a custom pencil, "perfect for making copious notes about how you will utilizze your privilege to create change." Fine.

Rochester Hills, MI: Erin K. Schmidt, 2016. Schmidt, Erin K.. Octavo. One of four copies, signed by the artist. A sculptural project, crafted as a crocheted baby blanket, unfinished, never used. Text printed on pink ribbion, tied in succession to divide the blanket into thirds and wrap it into an enclosure, describes the joy of pregnancy and the despair of miscarriage. At the innermost section, "swaddled" are the products of conception, crocheted in red yarn, and a small silk book, at the cover of which is a reproduction of an abnormal ultrasound and within which are texts from pathology reports. The project, both devastatingly emotional and grievously emotionless, haptically evokes the lived experience of medical trauma. Fine.

Oblong 24mo. 16pp. Illustrated throughout in both black-and-white and color are the offerings for United's 1919 line of wooden toys, among which are scooters, wagons, hobby horses, and even a merry-go-round. Tipped-in at the rear is the dealer's price list. Staple-bound in printed wrappers. Mild exterior soiling, else a near fine example of post-WWI manufacturing and marketing.

1992. Gorey, Edward. One of 1,000 copies, advertising The Sylvia Davis Collection of the Work of Edward Gorey, on view in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collection at the University of Rochester. Dancers, a skeleton, the Black Doll, a cat, a dog, idle children, and men in large coats dot a gridded structure, whose central column details the event at hand. Trace creasing to left edge, else fine. (Measures 17 1/8 by 13 in.; 435x330mm).

With samples of small types and whimsical illustrations by Levien. A reprint of an important essay by the designer of one of the most beautiful miniature typefaces, called "Brilliants." Very fine in gilt-stamped red leather with slightly worn thin paper dust-wrapper. Housed in plastic case. (2 1/4 by 1 11/16; 58x43mm).

Signed by the translator, Miguel Alfredo Olivera, on the colophon page. Shelley's famous ode, translated into Spanish, is illustrated with colored engravings by Raúl Veroni. A lovely production, this copy is loose, as issued, in printed wrappers and housed within a hand-painted chemise and slipcase, on which the skylark theme is presented in an almost Impressionistic style. Very fine.
