Later half morocco and cloth by Riviere for Sotheran, raised bands, spines in six panels, title lettered directly to second panel, author and volume number to third, date to foot, remaining panels gilt with central tudor rose, from which emanates four trefoils with pointille background, dotted roll to bands and head and foot, with single line to covers, t.e.g. Very slightly rubbed to extremities, spines very slightly faded, but otherwise externally quite bright. Some light browning and occasional spotting to text, Z1 with transposing of a couple of letters, but no loss of sense. Contemporary full calf, raised bands, spine in six panels, second panel with green morocco title label, remaining panels with red morocco labels and differing central devices, first panel with an 'all seeing eye', third with volume numbers, fourth with a cross, fifth with a winged hour-glass device and sixth with a flower. Covers with a rope rolled border, large flower corner pieces with the same central winged hour-glass device surrounded by the motto on the upper cover, 'Let Every Virtue Shine and Every Bliss Be Thine', which is in turn surrounded by a circle made up of stars, with the lower cover continuing 'Humility and Peace Thy Name Shall Ever Grace' again with the surrounding circle, spot patterned marbled endpapers. Contemporary tree calf, recently rebacked with original label, smooth spine in seven panels divided by a gilt roll, gilt roll to borders of covers. Slightly rubbed, corners worn with slight loss to calf. Internally very lightly browned, some off setting from plates, light stain to margin of I2, but generally clean. Several small nicks and tears to top margin of several signatures, with occasional small amounts of loss (never affecting text). Folding plates have been guarded, occasional creasing to edges from folding. Armorial bookplate of Arthur W. de Capell Brooke to front pastedown.
