The rear cover is slightly soiled. Signed by Snow on the half title page. V. Douglas Snow joined the University of Utah art faculty in 1954. He had his first solo exhibition in 1955 on the Utah campus.

Publisher's pink top stain. Original dust jacket is in very good- condition, intact but foxed, toned, and mildly torn at edges and corners. Water damage to bottom portion of back cover, but textblock and dust jacket are unaffected. Written in his mother tongue, apek writes short essays about specific words and their uses and idiocyncracies. The second portion of the book moves into a broader reflection on the use of phrases and idioms and their cultural significance.

The extremities are mildly age-toned, and the spine ends are just a tiny bit chipped. The pages are subtly yellowed. Several pages have minor staining. The extremities are gently rubbed and bumped, and the spine is darkened and rolled. There is a 1 x 1/4" from the head of the spine. The cloth at the foot of the spine is chipped, and there is a subtle glue-stained area on the lower third of the spine. The underlying boards are exposed at the corners. The cloth and board at the top edge of the rear cover has been sliced and neatly glued. There are four tiny splits in the endsheets along the hinges, and there is a 1 and 1/2 inch closed tear in the paper of the rear pastedown. There are blind stamps from a university institution on the front free endsheet and title page. The pages are tanned. The inside margin of the front free endsheet is adhered to the title page. New York: Abelard Press, 1951. First edition. Hardcover. 426pp. Octavo [22 cm] Orange cloth over boards with a gilt stamped title and vignette, and two black ink stamped panels on the spine. Very good. The top edge of the text block is lightly foxed, and the spine ends and corners of the covers are gently bumped. The endsheets are just a bit discolored. In the pictorial dust jacket illustrated by Leon H. Leiderman, in very good condition. The jacket is yellowed and lightly foxed, and has minimal edge wear. The jacket's spine is minimally sunned. Vardis Fisher's novel, "Children of God," won the Harper Prize. The theme of this novel is the conflict between old and new as represented in the struggle between Ahijah, the prophet of the God of Wrath, and Solomon.

Van Deren Coke (1921-2004) was a photographer, curator, and art historian whose work evoked a surrealist style. He studied photography in New York at the Clarence White School of Photography and continued his education under Ansel Adams in the 1950s.

A tale space piracy set in the year 1985.

From the collection of Berkeley book collector and letterpress printer, John Ruyle. A collection of 47 short stories.

Endpapers are foxed with a small bookplate on front pastedown. Martha Summerhayes was considered to be an elegant Victorian woman, until she left that life behind and followed her husband out to the west. Persuaded by her children to publish an account of her life this book was able to come to life.
