Edinburgh, 1945. Letter. Very good. Dear Grace and Gramma: Just a line or two this morning whilst waiting for the chow line to subside. I am on the fourth day of my furlough here and have found this city most impressive. Talk about Story Book Castles - there are more castles around here than one can count. Just as you would picture them, high, black, gloomy and massive outlined against a dreary sky or on the rocky coast. I was swimming in the Firth of Fourth yesterday and want to play a little golf on the famous St. Andrews course before returning. The war news is cerrtainly giving us a lot of optimism although the surrender will not effect our homecoming date to any great extent. It will certainly be wonderful to know that the world is once more at peace. I will write again soon - With love, Bruce.

Henri Leonard's Multum in Parvo Reference and Dose Book (Professor of the Medical and Surgical Diseases of Women, Detroit College of Medine) is found listed as an edition in flexible leather, 143pp, at 75 cents, stating 40,000 copies issued, in 1896. Edition found in 1908 at 145 pp. Flyer offered here advertises the New Edition as having 30,000 copies sold, Cloth 16mo., 112pp., offered at 75 cents postpaid, New Edition of Dose Book (assumed flat price) of 30cts.

Three/quarter panel envelope, embossed with an Aker, or twin lions, with coordinating two panel exterior folder, embossed title in gilt. Illustrated by Roland Bauza. #49/100, twenty quatrains on handmade Montval paper with the watermark of Louis Jou. Three three wood plate illustrations.

Complete, with light toning along top border of title page. Printed at the Press of the North American Review. Ware Jr., an influential Unitarian theologian was a professor of Harvard Divinity School and mentored Ralph Waldo Emerson when Emerson studied for the ministry in the 1820s. (His father, Henry Ware , Sr., Hollis Chair of Divinity, helped staked a Unitarian claim at Harvard v. the Calvinist influence). Ware was minister of the Unitarian Second Church in Boston at the time of this recitation, until 1830 when Emerson replaced him. The 20-stanza poem was written in honor of Lafayette's 1824 American tour.
