Finland: United Artists, 1953. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. A fabulous-condition Finnish A2 cinema poster for the 1953 movie, VICE SQUAD starring Edward G. Robinson & Paulette Godard. The movie is also known as The Girl from Room 17 and it is this less "salacious" title which is referred to in the poster. The actual Finnish title translates as "Flying Squad". The film was first screened in cinemas in Finland in 1953 with no subsequent theatrical screenings. This poster is not a modern reproduction and nor is it Video/DVD-related. Standard size 23.5" x slightly under 16" approx. It is in fantastic condition - unfolded and with no chips or tears to the edges - one or two small handling creases. At the top - in the brim of the hat - there is a puncture or split to the paper although there is not actual loss. There are no pinholes - it may be an unused poster. Full leather gilt with the New Naturalist monogram to the upper cover, two raised bands and gilt titles at the spine. pp. xii, 516, illustrated with colour photographs and diagrams. Tipped-in limitation plate to the front endpaper which is signed by the author and, in addition, the traditional New Naturalist dustjacket is provided and has been signed directly by its artist and designer, Robert Gillmor. An eye-catching, authentic cinema-used Finnish film poster for the movie The Bandit of Zhobe starring Victor Mature. The film's first and only screenings took place in 1959 and this is a first-release poster. Standard Finnish A2 size, measuring approximately 15.5" x 24". The poster was printed by Piirtopaino Oy and is signed in the plate by the prolific poster-artist, Engel. Condition: C7, Very Good A folded poster with folding creases in both directions. There are staple-holes at each corner. No tears or nicks, very minor edge-wear. Some handling-creases at corners. A very colourful and descriptive poster, ideally sized for framing and will look even more impressive under glass. For best appreciation of condition please examine the high resolution image which accompanies the listing.

A Near Fine copy with a bump to the crown but otherwise a nice, square copy with sharp corners, covers clean and bright. Quite what the inscription reads I cannot say as it is in Chinese but it is likely to be humourous as such was her demeanour on the day. It does include her website-address! First Editions thus - a mid-1970s Finnish edition of "More William" printed over two volumes, 1974 & 1975. With the original Thomas Henry illustrations although the pictorial boards feature a more modern representation of William (on the covers). A novelty item, perhaps, but in very reasonable condition - edge-wear, including splitting at one corner, minor spine-slant to each book, the contents clean and fresh, no owner names etc. VG.

Helsinki: Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer, 1930. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Near Fine. A fabulous, Finnish movie poster for the 1930 pre-code movie, A LADY TO LOVE, starring Vilma Banky, Edward (G.) Robinson & Joseph Schildkraut. The film premiered in Finland in September, 1930, and this is a first-screening poster. Prominent fold-lines in both directions middle and towards the top of the vertical fold there is a small patch of discoloration around the seam. Not a single nick or tear to the edges. No staining/marks other than mentioned above. Pretty much faultless and not far off 100 years old an extremely impressive item of vintage movie memorabilia. For the completist of any of the above this is not an easy item to find. In nice clean condition but with a crease to the front cover which affects the first two or three leaves as well - otherwise Fine or even As New. SIGNED at the contents page by both Jan Siegel and Stephen Baxter. Nice item.
