Description:
[various places in Alaska], 1958. A 16 pp. typescript, rectos only, approx. 7800 words, stapled in the upper left hand corner. First sheet detached from the staple, a few ink corrections, lightly creased from a horizontal fold else very good. Although unsigned, the author mentions both her husband's name and her own in the text. From their base in Anchorage, the couple began a two week vacation to Fairbanks, Fort Yukon, and Circle Hot Springs, then on to Dawson City and Whitehorse in Canada, before returning to Alaska. The couple's first stop was at the "novelty" floating hotel, the Nenana, "the last of the old river steamers now permanently docked on the Chena River." They spent the night on board before continuing on to Pedro Dome, one of the White Alice Communications Systems [WACS] sites some 25 miles from Fairbanks on an isolated mountain top. Her husband Bob Donnelly's job was to check out the station which was part of the North American 'over-the-pole' defense system developed by the U.S. Air…

Description:
[Hanover, NH]: np, 1835. First edition. Stitched sheets, 18.5 x 11 cm. 24 pp. Ink inscription on front cover: "Presented by Mellen Chamberlain." Chamberlain was a graduate of Dartmouth, a lawyer, historian and librarian. He was head librarian at Boston Public Library for over 10 years. Hale taught for eight years at Dartmouth until his job was abolished. This "letter" to the trustees, was composed by Hale upon his departure. "One of the outstanding injustices in the history of American academic freedom had occurred in his unwarranted dismissal by the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees. In 1828 he had been ordained in the Episcopalian ministry, and two years later he began to hold services in his home at Hanover on Sunday evenings. This custom perturbed the Congregational ministers of the region, and they ultimately brought pressure to bear on the college administration to force Hale's removal. This the college fathers accomplished not by removing Hale from his job but by abolishing the job itself.…

Bethel [VT], 1837. Single sheet, 20 x 19 cm. Partly printed, completed in manuscript. Unevenly trimmed along top edge, some chipping at right margin, old fold lines and occasional spotting. This share No. 389 is made out to Silas Tupper, of Barnard, in Windsor County, Vermont. Although we have been unable to find any specific information about this company, at least one of the trustees was well known…
