Tokyo, Japan: Toshi Yoshida, 1967. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good+. 8vo (9"x8"). Yamato binding with enclosed spine; decorative paper-covered boards with hand-printed pastedown title. Three corners bumped. Interior pages slightly bumped at top corner, small dent to foredge of textbock. Light wear to spine extremes. Foxing to title page, lightly toned plates. Cardboard slipcase with hand-printed pastedown title: toned, spotted, dented; 1" tear to top right corner. 20 hand-printed blocks interspersed with plates that list the paper, block, pigment, carving and printing process of each print along with a schematic for the print. Text in English. Signed by Yoshida in Japanese and English.

Missing slipcover, includes subscription card. Illustrated paper covers, by Henri Matisse. Rubbed spine extremes, 1" closed tear to tail/upper joint. Covers rubbed & toned, edgewear. Several small dampstains. Upper corners slightly bent. Paper loss to upper cover where a sticker was removed. Pages toned. Slight crack to gutter at page 24. US Issue Esquire-Coronet gold seal on title page. Text in English.

One third of the upper hinge is cracked, but the overall binding is holding up well.

Unfortunately, pp.28-38 and the endpapers are water damaged, causing two of the pages to have been formerly stuck together and the lower free endpaper to be stuck to the lower cover. All of the pages are still entact and present, but pp. 32-33 are hard to read and torn along the fore-edge. Signed with brief inscription by author on title page. Reads, "Bon jour Alissa from -- Richard Hell -- Oct. 7, 1999." Reprint of Hell's 1973 novella. Already an expensive book on its own, this edition is rarely signed.
