With a frontispiece, title-page vignette, and eighteen other fine steel engraved plates after Turner.. half navy morocco and blue cloth. Top edge gilt. Lower joint with a two inch crack, the occasional minor spot in the text. Corners bumped else a very good clean copy. One of three works generally referred to as Turner's Annual Tours, and this apparently a large paper copy (or at least an untrimmed copy), with plenty of margin for the connoisseur. It was first published in the previous year as India paper proofs before titles. Edward Hodnett, goes so far as to say that the engravers who worked on Turner's landscapes turned his watercolors into "steel engravings of unsurpassed brilliance" (Five Centuries of English Book Illustration, page 141) Gordon Ray says that Turner "achieved his best landscapes on steel in the series" (The Illustrator and the Book in England From 1790-1914, page 18).

Gilt decorated spine and cover. All edges gilt.160pp. With 70 engravings of trees and wildlife, full page, and within the text. Light edgewear. Last page is a little soiled and has a half-inch tear near the gutter. Two gift inscriptions on the front endpaper. Overall very good. The author of "Walter at the Sea-side, Mary Greg wrote a series of natural history themed books for young people. This work treats the southern forest of England, New Forest. The story describes the environs and inhabitants of this forest, primarily its trees, in a romantic and appealing fashion. Oaks, birches, elms, chestnuts, lime, conifers, plane trees, alders and "graveyard trees" notably the Cypress, and the mighty sequoia of California are featured in the tale. An enchanting and educational piece.

Very good. 16mo; pp; 117, (i), 6, colophon, ads; illustrated with a line drawings; original printed pictorial stiff paper wrappers; spine worn but intact;. A pilot's memoir of life in a French observation squadron on the western front. He describes his experience "Compared with some Squadrons, our work is pleasant." Though the author's experiences may have been "pleasant," they were not to be taken as typical of those of all pilots at the front states the introduction. A nice relic of WWI,

The personal experiences of an American infantry soldier of the 10th Mountain Division in WWII. He recounts the final skirmishes against the retreating German Army. A very personal reminiscence by one who saw a lot. Inscribed to a comrade, "For John Breau, who was my friend in war and who continues to be my friend, in peace. May we never have to fight together again. John T. Bassett, Napa California, November 25, 1989"

This young man from a prominent Philadelphia family was a graduate of Groton & Harvard, an All-American Quarterback and an American patriot. He joined the Brits early in WWI first as an ambulance driver and later in an armored car battalion. He was killed in action at the Somme. He was also a friend of the Kermit Roosevelt. This copy inscribed, "With compliments, LS".

There was great support for the "War of '98", "A Splendid Little War". The US would emerge from the Spanish American War a fledling World Power. TR would be the first modern American President. Scarce in good condition.
