Description:
NY: Hopkins & Seymour, January, 1806. First edition. Hardcover. 8vo., vi, [1], 215 pp. Bound with; AN ANSWER TO WAR IN DISGUISE; OR, REMARKS UPON THE NEW DOCTRINE OF ENGLAND CONCERNING NEUTRAL TRADE. February, 1806. 8vo., 76 pp. Top margin of the first title page has been clipped; with evidence of former bookplates removed from the front pastedown; the title page has a small stain as do the last few leaves. This remains a very good copy, bound in full tree-calf with a red morocco label on spine, front hinge expertly repaired. The first title is attributed to James Stephen (Howes S-937); the second title has long been attributed to Gouverneur Morris (Sabin 50827) however, Howes M-825 states "More probably by Rufus King." On the title page of our copy, in the place usually allotted for the author's name is the pencil signature of Rich. Peters. When considering the authorship, compared to the other two to whom this work is often credited, Peters seems far more likely. From 1771-1776 he served as…

Description:
Original platinum photograph, 7 7/16 inches [18.8 cm.] x 4 7/8 inches [12.5 cm.] Tipped to a gray art paper 10 inches [25.4 cm] x 6 1/4 inches [15.8 cm.] Boldly signed in pencil along the left margin of the mount, and dated '98. There are two caricatures in pencil, in an unknown hand on the reverse of the mount. The image is fine and bright; tipped to an archival rag board with window over mat. Towards the end of Alfred Stieglitz's student days in Europe, he made this exposure near Vienna, June 1890. Sarah Greenough, the curator of photography for the National Gallery of Art, published ALFRED STIEGLITZ / THE KEY SET. In Vol. 1, p. 36 -37, there are three variant prints of this image [ No. 62, 63, and 64]. The first, a platinum print exhibited in 1891 and widely reproduced in magazines and books of the period, shows a slightly wider view, with foliage at the left side and along the horizon line. The next print, also a platinum, was printed 1895/96, and is a bit darker with higher contrast and a greater…

Description:
Castle Films, 1966. Complete edition. Weegee. 8mm, 200 feet of b&w silent film. Housed in illustrated publisher's 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inch box. The box shows modest wear. I have not viewed this film; however, it appears to be in fine condition. "Weegee's nontheatrical short Camera Magic, made for Castle Films, a demonstration of photographic and cinematographic tricks, embodies some of the same accessible and highly democratic aesthetic traditions of his contemporaries. His use of a carnivalesque sensibility, however, distinguishes him from the avant-garde experimentation of more refined modernist aesthetes. One sequence demonstrates how to stage a photograph called "the girl who lost her head," a bizarre decapitation worthy of the most misogynist dadaist. In another, optical printing stops and reverses the motion of a horse race and a military parade, wreaking havoc on these ordered rituals. Though these techniques echo surrealist photomontage, or Vertov's Man with a Movie Camera, the Marxism here is more…
