Covers and frontispiece detached but present, backstrip missing, owner's name, bookplate and pencil notations on front pastedown, bookplate of Military Historical Society of Massachusetts on rear pastedown, text is mildly age-toned, edges darkened, but text is otherwise quite sound and clean. Humorous account written phonetically in the local vernacular.

Light rubbing to extremities, faint foxing to first and last 2 pages, contents otherwise clean and appear to be unread. Illustrations along with the instructions, including several foldouts.

Very light wear to extremities, contents age- toned (mainly endpapers), bindings are tight. Volume I is INSCRIBED AND SIGNED to E.T.I. Thygesen. Laid-in are also 2 letters addressed to Mr.Thygesen, also SIGNED by Sawyer. One of the letters includes a personal handwritten postcript to Mr. Thygesen, and a list of page references in the 2 volumes for Mr. Thygesen to look-up. A warm asscociation copy with 2 interesting associated letters. One of the letters is partially darkened (but clearly readable) by offsetting of a newpaper clipping which is also laid-in.

Portland, Me.: Chisholm Bros., 1895. Hardcover. Good. Oblong 8vo. Green cloth, gold and black decoration. No date, circa 1895. Accordion fold format, 30 panels of Washingt views in sepia tone. Edgewear and scuffing to cover, 1/2 inch abrasion to corner of front cover, illustrations are all in sound condition, some chipping to rear endpaper gutter. Over 100 views of Washington, plus portraits of all Presidents through Benjamin Harrison's term 1889-1893, and a centerfold chromolithograph of the Capitol dome.

Illustrations for each exercise, and samples of music to accompany the esercises.

Extremities rubbed, small wrinkle on spine, but overall bright and clean. Contents lightly toned. Dustjacket is chipped, torn, taped and lacking upper 2 inches of spine. Inscription signed by author, J.A. Rudolph on front endpaper. All about allergies and how they affect us.

This book is not without its faults, but it is an early printing of a scare publication. The Beard sisters were co-founders of the first American girls' scouting group, which eventually became the Camp Fire Girls.
