Owner's signature to front free endpaper, owner's inscription to blank front endpage. Portrait frontis with tissue guard (bust of Marcus Aurelius in British Museum). Printed in red & black throughout on laid paper. Decorative initials. Hinges sound, endpapers uncracked at gutters. Latin translations of hymns by authors including Isaac Watts, Charles Wesley, John Keble, and John Henry Newman. Prefatory note by 'W. B. B.' (Walter Biggar Blaikie), explaining that '(t)hese essays in rhyming Latin were the recreation of my father after his retirement in his seventy-eighth year from active clerical and professional work', and that his father's death prevented further revision of the manuscript.
