Three illustrations of courtly scenes: a man reading a declaration, a group of people around a feast, a knight on a horse with a lady behind him. Seven-line illuminated initial printed in blue, red two-line initials throughout, red border over title on first page of text. Rubbing along spine and to corners, else a beautiful, near fine copy in half blue leather. T.e.g.

NY: B. F. Goodrich Co, 1902. Small quarto. (28)pp. An alphabet, fully illustrated in black, white, and orange, that doubles as an advertising pamphlet for Palmer Tires. Each letter has an illustration, followed by a rhyme and a short promotional statement. For example, "A is for Ape / A dissatisfied Monk / If he rode Palmer Tires / he'd have much more spunk. Palmer Tires give satisfaction" and "Z - the last letter / of all the long string / So we close by repeating / the very same thing. From first to last Palmer Tires are the best." The alphabet is followed by a list of available tires and an additional advertisement for the Jiffy Repair Tool, which comes with every pair. Bound in original printed paper wrappers showing minor edgewear, else a fine copy of a fascinating and scarce advertising piece.

One of fifty copies signed by both Murdoch and Stone and accompanied by a full set of numbered and initialed artist's proofs of the engravings. Twelve of Murdoch's short poems, each one titled after a month of the year and illustrated by a Stone engraving. Mild abrasions to corners, else fine in cloth-backed marbled boards, gilt lettered on the spine. The extra suite of engravings, each individually matted, is housed in a cloth drop-back box, also lettered in gilt on the spine. The whole is enclosed in a matching marbled slipcase. T.e.g.

A stunning production in Arts & Crafts style, and a fitting ode to Muir, whose persistent environmental activism was essential leverage for the preservation of the Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Park. Muir's fierce advocacy against the use of the land for commercial use, even in a "sustainable" way, evolved into the model now used for the United States' National Parks. Four tipped-in color illustrations depict now-familiar views of Yosemite, including the inspiring visage of Half Dome, and to these are added four portraits of Muir. Accompanying the book is a brooch designed and executed by Tom Herman of Seven Fingers Jewelers, a firm devoted to organic and naturalistic creations. Tokyo: Gakushuusha, 1926. Small octavo. (18)pp. Highly illustrated, with a few pages partitioned into panels suggestive of modern manga. One issue of a monthly periodical aimed toward boys; a parallel series was published for girls. The series of short narratives presented within emphasize aspects of life in contemporary Japan along with nostalgic imagery of the shogunate. The publication is in keeping with the prevailing cultural and political priorities of Japan in 1926, initiating young boys into the period's extreme nationalism, which was buoyed by recent expansion, implementation of state religion, victory against the Russians in the Russo-Japanese War, and significant economic and industrial modernization. A new edition of the nineteenth-century book on children's sports and games, Youthful Recreations, reproduced from a copy published by J. Johnson in Philadelphia and owned by noted miniature book collector and Press proprietor Stanley Marcus. The book has been reduced in size by one third, and typeset to reproduce the original punctuation and spacing. With a preface by Justin Schiller.
