About This Item

This is a nice condition, original Civil War-era issue of "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper" from August 16, 1862. The issue features wonderful engravings and illustrated advertisements. The pages are un-cut and still attached along the edges.

The issue contains CIVIL WAR content (both articles and engravings) - here are a few examples of the engravings:
* the raid in Kentucky - rebel guerillas levying contributions of the inhabitants
* the fight at Licking Bridge between National troops and the Morgan rebel guerillas
* US mailboat passing the rebel battery on the James River en route to Fortress Monroe
* the battle at Willis Church before the battle at Richmond
* national troops marching through the streets of New Fernandina, Florida
* the state arsenal in Albany
* fortifications at St. Louis, Missouri
* Lieut. Hammond capturing Col. Avery
* the assassination of two union pickets by rebel guerillas
* the reception of wounded soldiers at Fortress Monroe - hospital surgeons dressing their wounds
* the headquarters of Gen. Butterfield near Harrison's Landing, James River, Virginia
* artillery implements

Condition:
Nice condition with only some minimal wear that would be expected, such as occasional stains, foxing and tears. The top edge of all issues have "Ref. 071" written in pencil and "Attleboro Public Library Joseph L. Sweet Memorial" stamped in ink.
