Large woodcut device on title, replete with woodcut anatomical illustrations, leaf 2d5 present with figures intact on one sheet and not cut-out and superimposed. Full limp vellum over boards, spine handsomely title in a contemporary calligraphic hand. Internally, first blank worn, some inner marginal detachment from textblock at p. 10/11 but holding strong, some occasional upper marginal damp-staining, occasional marginal worming, some occasional toning possibly re-cased in the original binding. Generally, a handsome and very presentable copy in the original binding. A wonderful and in every sense of the world unique album, made against the backdrop of unstable Weimar republic, in which hedonism, sex and fear where indeed intimated companions. Fiedler won at the 1911 world exhibition in Turin the first prize and had another exhibition in Prague in 1913. He belonged to the circle of Jaroslav Hašek and Egon Erwin Kisch and in 1916 married Erna Hauswald in Dresden where he occupied astudio at Sedanstraße 7. Unique, museum-quality manuscript herbal, previously unknown to research, compiled for the Memmingen pharmacist Wolfgang Schötz by an unidentified but obviously professionally trained artist. After Stanley's death the volume was presented by his widow to Samuel Bignold Mayor of Norwich and includes her letter beging his acceptance of this "Royal Prayer Book."

This rare edition is the augmented version of Quadt's earlier atlas, the Geographisch Handbuch (1600), which contained 82 maps, as well as his Europae totius terrarum orbis partis praestantissimae (1596) which contained 67 maps. Probably an abridgement in Italian by Carlo Michele Lotteri, of the 'Cours d'opérations de chirurgie' by Dionis. This conclusion is based on the identical title page of another manuscript in the Wellcome library. No record has been traced of an Italian translation of Dionis' work-first printed in Paris in 1707. This MS. is either an original translation and abridgement by Lotteri, or notes of lectures on operative surgery closely following the original text, taken down by him when a student. Produced in Turin? The plates are identical with the MS in in the Wellcome and different from the work of Dionis.
