New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1920. First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 298 pp. Brown cloth binding with black titles. Spine cloth darkened, spine titles faded but clear, spine ends frayed, light soiling to covers, corners bumped, interior toned, spine a bit shaky but hinges and text secure, corner of page 9 torn off not affecting text, text clean, prior owner's pencil signature on front endpaper. Yezierska's first book, a collection of short stories previously published in magazines, and later made into a movie, about Jewish immigrant ghetto life on the Lower East Side of New York. Scarce first printing of author's first book.

Hinges broken, front end paper missing, old masking tape connecting front paste down and frontispiece verso, mostly mild/ some moderate foxing to interior, light wear to board edges and spine ends, spine mildly cocked. This is an apparent reissue with a twist of original title by the publisher of the 1869 Women of New York or the Under-world of a Great City by Ellington - a pseudonym according to OCLC, possibly for James Dabney McCabe in the opinion of one scholar (citation on request).
