Hardcover bound in white quarter cloth with grey cloth covered boards. The binding is quite worn and stained but sound. Old glass rings and stains on the front cover, especially at the fore edge. The white cloth spine is foxed and the spine is toned and the spine gilt a bit dulled. A sound copy with secure hinges. Text is clean. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. Signed on the back side of the frontis by William Lanier Hunt. William Lanier Hunt (1906-1996) was the "Dean of Southern Horticulture." He donated land along the Morgan Creek in southern Orange County, NC to the North Carolina Botanical Garden and is now known as the Hunt Arboretum.

Text is toned but generally clean with a bit of foxing near the photographic plates. Complete with the folding map at the rear. The map has some brief tears at the edges of the folds. Quite scarce.

Elaborate gilt rules and tooling on the spines. The bindings show light to moderate rubbing and wear. A sound set, although there is a slight crack in the gutter between pages 62 and 63. Each volume has a tipped-in photo as a frontis. Text is a little toned and has some occasional pencil markings in the margins. An attractive set.

Hardcovers quarter bound in dark blue cloth with light blue cloth covered boards. Bindings are spotted, have scuffing, light foxing. The period one book has a gouge to the fore-edge of the rear board. The period two book has a dark stain mark at the top of the front board. All edges of text blocks are gilt. The gilt is dulled, Marbled endpapers. Text has light toning. Some pages are smudged. Photographs throughout.
