A partial set (49 of 66 maps) of the same maps from folios in very good condition (bagged and boarded)

============================

A remarkable handsome set indispensable to the serious scholar of the Napoleonic Age. The author, Louis Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877) was a political journalist and historian who became Prime Minister of France. Thiers moved in the highest circles of society and met with many of the surviving generals and statesmen of France and her opponents and wove their recollections into this monumental history.

This is the most complete examination of Napoleon's ascension and reign ever written. The set covers the history of the nation from 1799 with the Consulate of which Napoleon was one of the Consuls to his final fall after Waterloo, and his exile and death on St. Helena in April, 1821. Thiers gives a great deal of information about the details of various battles, the "attitude" of Napoleon when he stepped down from his horse or spoke to a general or official, and the condition of the army. He also gives rather impressive analysis of some of Napoleon's less brilliant military decisions.
I became interested in this remarkable resource when I acquired a partial set of the maps for the volumes from folios of the Atlas de l'Histoire du Consulat et de l'Empire (49 of 66 maps). Maps are in very good condition, bagged and boarded. Pictures of a few of the maps are shown.
Please inquire if you have questions or would like additional photos.

Description:
London: Henry G. Bohn. Good with no dust jacket. 1861. Reprint. Hardcover. This is a challenging book to list, since it has appeared in so many printings, and since evidently these two volumes were followed by three more in English translation (with the French original appearing in a 20 volume set!) The book in hand has 969 pages, and ends with the Treaties of Tilsit, if that's any clue as to whether it would be of use to you. It is not illustrated, but does appear to give a blow-by-blow account of everything it touches on. This copy is beautifully bound in full leather, which has held up very well, and has gorgeous marbled endpapers and edges. HOWEVER, alas, the front board is fully detached. This is a big flaw, but otherwise, this is an excellent reading copy, since the paper is not foxed or damaged in the least, and although the print is small, it is highly legible. .

Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
