About This Item

1868 1ed IRELAND History Irish Colonial AMERICA & SLAVERY Catholics Illustrated

James MacGeoghegan was an Irish Roman Catholic priest and historian. His 'History of Ireland' was written in French and published at Parish in 1758. John Mitchel's 1868 'History of Ireland' professes to be merely a continuation of MacGeoghegan, though Mitchel is throughout much more of a partisan than MacGeoghegan.

This 1868 edition includes numerous full-page illustrations throughout including a color frontispiece! It is notable, not only for its impressive illustrations, but for the contents including

· Treaty of Limerick

· William II

· Battle of Landen

· Queen Anne

· Influence of the English Parliament

· Important early American affairs, correspondence between Ireland and the British Colonies – discussions on American slavery and English alliances concerning slaves

· And much, much more
