A story about a young girl called Cecilia who visits the clerk of the weather with her imaginary brothers Tibbs and Kiddiwee. They visit the Castles of the Four Winds, the Himalayas and the Blarney Stone. Large octavo, coloured frontispiece, 11 coloured plates, 13 black & white plates, 6 drawings in text; original boards.

Very good, with rubbing to all extremities, prev. owner bkplt. signature dated 1848. Published 1843 - 1845. Binding ( still firm ), is half leather over marbled boards. Leather spine labels, and marbled fore edges. Many illustrations in black and white, with 2 in colour. Colour lithographed title pages and chapter heads. pp. 348 / 320 /358 / 352. Large, heavy books will require extra postage.

London: T. McClean / John Camden Hotten Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Very good copy, of what seems to be a combination of the McClean edition of 1855, and the Hotten edition of 1899. First titlepage and frontis are clearly from the 1855 edition, ( toned and foxed ), and second titlepage clearly states John Camden Hotten, 1859. All plates called for are present, but one is bound before the second title page. The binding appears to be a re-bind, incorporating the originall gilt stamped, pebbled blue cover. Occassional light foxing throughout. What makes this copy interesting, is the bookplate which states " Loan Collection of Rodman Wanamaker " See photos..

Printed on one side of the page and bi-folded for binding. The text block has been rebacked and skillfully remounted in the original covers. The pages are bright and clean. The cover is somewhat darkened around the edges, minor wear at the top and bottom of the spine, and some staining to the edges of the pages from the old glue. Illustrations by Walter Crane. Large format books, the bindings measure 11 /14 inches tall by about 9 inches wide. Hardcovers bound in early 3/4 green calf with green cloth-covered boards. Bindings signed (in type) in the verso of the front flyleaves, "Bound by Bayntun (Riviere) Bath, England." Raised bands on the spines, which have 6 compartments each. Dual leather labels per spine. The compartments are nicely stamped in decorative gilt with floral designs. Some rubbing to the bindings and spotting on the cloth. Faux marbled endpapers. Prior owner's signature of "William Lanier Hunt" on the second front flyleaves. Text is foxed, especially at the front and rear. Nicely illustrated throughout.
