Contemporary full red grained morocco, spine with gilt rules, lettering and embellishment. Boards with double gilt border rules, foliar and floral embellishment, edge tooling, inner foliar curlicues. All edges gilt, (gilding a little faded in places), green silk ribbon bookmark. Small area of surface loss to lower board (see photo). Corner tips lightly rubbed. Occasional light spotting, mainly to free endpapers. Text and plates crisp and bright.
Guy Toussaint Julien Carron (1760-1821) born in Rennes. Educator, writer and philanthropist who founded a number of social and educational institutions: schools, libraries and pharmacies while in exile in England. Deported to Jersey (1792-1796), on the Bourbon Restoration in 1814, Carron returned to France and became head of the Institut de Marie - Thérèse.

This is a scarce, complete 6-volume "LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE" Wee Little Books set by Harold Gray with original storage box. 1934; Whitman Publishing Co.; Racine, Wisconsin. All books are illustrated and in terrific condition. The set contains the following 6 books:* Little Orphan Annie Finds Mickey* Little Orphan Annie and Daddy Warbucks* Little Orphan Annie and the Lucky Knife* Little Orphan Annie and the Pinch-Pennys* Little Orphan Annie and Her Dog Sandy* Little Orphan Annie at Happy HomeCondition:"Finds Mickey" and "Happy Home" have some wear at the top edge of the spine...otherwise, the books are in terrific condition with no other condition issues found. All books are tightly bound with no cracks and no loose pages. All books appear unread with clean pages and no writing, stains, tears or foxing found. The slip case is clean with no stains and only a tiny tear at one corner by the opening. Overall the set is in great condition.

This is a scarce "Big Little Book" copy of "LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE" by Harold Gray. Number 708. 1933 1st edition, 2nd printing (with 1928 copyright date and 3-title ad at the back of the book); Whitman Publishing Company; Racine, Wisconsin. Illustrated throughout. This title has the distinction of being the second Big Little Book ever published. The book is a reprint of the daily comic strip that appeared in the New York Daily News newspaper from October 1, 1931 to August 31, 1932. Scarce in any condition.Condition:Soiling/staining to the front cover; the spine has a stain at the left edge; small, light stain at the top-right corner of the back cover; the left and right edges of the bottom of the spine have chipped off. The top-right corner of the front cover is worn. Tight binding with no cracks. Page 234 is present but detached, and the top edge has torn off. Appears to be genuinely rare; we note just three library holdings, all in the USA (Harvard, UVA, and Worcester PL [MA]).
