Spine ends and corners slightly rubbed, else a clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (some chips and tears, but printed matter mostly unaffected). Signed by the author, Newbery Medalist Virginia Hamilton.
First edition. The Edgar Award-winning novel is the first in the two book Dies Drear Chronicles. Thomas knew the house held secrets even before he first saw it looming gray and massive on its ledge of rock. It had a century-old legend – two fugitive slaves had been killed by bounty hunters after leaving its passageways, and Dies Drear himself, the abolitionist who had made the house into a station on the Underground Railroad, had been murdered there. The ghosts of the three were said to walk its rooms. Thomas sensed there was danger, but could he discover the truth?

The book's edges and corners are all worn, the spine's leather is worn but the gold lettering still shows through and the front and rear covers have worn areas (see photos) The interior book has foxing and old mold staining throughout, some past dog eared pages and some faint writing on one page. Outside of these items, the rest of the book has no visible detriments, distractions, or other extraneous markings, and thus all printing is in a still preserved and enjoyable condition and the bindings remain tight and thus sound.If you order this book from us t will be very carefully wrapped up and padded then boxed and sent right away to your insured and will come with our genuine gratitude for your interest and for your order.

The Cover is in fair condition with shelf wear particularly along cover edges and wear and tears along spine. Light soiling and light age toning on a few pages. Pages predominantly in very good condition. Illustrations in excellent condition; however, the illustration on page 153 has separated from the binding.

Four volume hardcover set of Verne titles. The standout feature of this set is the condition which is Near Fine. Decorative blind stamped boards of blue cloth. Minor abrasions can be seen on the front and rear boards. The interiors have no writing, folds or other evidence of use. The paper is moderately toned and somewhat fragile. The only defect I can find is the ffep of Michael Strogoff which partially cracked when I was trying to image the title page. So handle with care, these are not reading copies. A curious feature seen in three volumes is the font size drops in the final few pages. Volumes are 7.25 x 5 inches. A very cool set with nice shelf presence. This is an uncommon edition.
