TROPIC OF CANCER - ORIGINAL PROSPECTUS by Miller, Henry - 1934

Paris: The Obelisk Press, 1934. First Edition. Original prospectus for Miller's first novel, which recounted his experiences during his first year in Paris as a struggling writer living on the fringe. "The text for this prospectus was written mostly, if not entirely, by Miller. In the body of the text is a 48 word excerpt from Nin's Preface, which itself is now known to have been written in large part by Miller" (Shifreen & Jackson A8a, pp.3-4). Published in September, 1934; a second edition of the prospectus was issued in 1935, in a smaller format on white paper and lacking the illustration by Kahane, with text printed on recto only. A rare and important Miller 'A' item. Provenance: one of a handful of copies found among the effects of the estate of Karl Karsten, a personal friend of Miller's during the teens-1930's. Broadside (7 7/8" x 6 1/4") printed in black on orange stock; titling and illustration by Maurice J. Kahane on recto; verso printed English and French text in two columns. Faint horizontal fold at center, else a fresh, Fine example.
