THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN by Ian Fleming - 1965

No place: No publisher, 1914. Unbound. Fine. A 1901 Frederic Remington illustration of a cowboy with the title and author printed at the top. Poster board, matted and framed behind glass. Matted to approximately 15" x 19". We have not examined the poster out of the frame, but the visible part of the image is about fine, with a tiny tear on the top, and a thin strip of very light tanning along the bottom, and with no other evidence of further damage behind the mat. The first edition of the book was published in 1914, which seems consistent with the age of the poster, although it might have been prepared for a contemporary reprint. Nice, large Remington image.

New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1927 First printing of the stated first edition, with "H-B" listed on the copyright page. Signed by Zane Grey in his signature purple ink directly on the front-free endpaper. Filmed twice by Paramount Pictures, originally in 1926 as a silent film, directed by John Waters, with Jack Holt; and in 1937, directed by Charles Barton, with Buster Crabbe and June Martel. Book with faint rubbing to extremities and light age-toning to endpapers, else in fine condition; dust jacket with a few closed tears with associated creases, moderate paper loss, primarily to corners and spine ends, and some soiling to rear panel, else fine.

Straight and firmly bound, corner bumps, light spine-end wear, spine darkened, rubs to boards, remainder mark to bottom edge, stamped initials to front endpaper, binding slightly shaken but holding firm. The California author of over 1000 books under dozens of pseudonyms presents the tale of a young cowboy who becomes an outlaw for the love of a woman and, with the help of a friend and the local cattlemen, takes on an established crime combine.

Blue green cloth with yellow and darker blue decorations and lettering. 298 pp. 3 pp. adv at rear. A very collectable copy from famed Western writer B. M. Bower. She was a prolific author and her books were illustrated by many of the most famous illustrators of the day inlcluding Wyeth and Dixon. This title was illustrated by Anton Otto Fischer. Very collectable for Bower and Illustrators.

Goldstone collection of early Western Fiction. This copy is in Very Good condition with a very good unclipped ($2.00) dustjacket. There is overall moderate age toning with some minor wear to the extremities, rubbing to the cloth boards and some soiling to the page ends--a well read copy--but also tight and square with no compromise to the binding or spine. The rare dustjacket is bright and colorful, missing some of the paper at the heel of the spine--and with light chipping at the head of the spine and a couple of closed end tears. The verso of the dustjacket has a Paramount Picture advertisement of the movie starring J. Warren Kerrigan and Lois Wilson--.
