Written by playwright, screenwriter & multiple Pulizer Prize (1936, 1939, 1941 & 1948) winner Robert Emmet Sherwood (1896 - 1955). This 1st play by Sherwood, criticizes the pointlessness of the war conducted by Carthanginian general Hannibal (247 BC - BC 183/181) of the 2nd Punic War fame. Considered one of the greatest military commanders in history, Hannibal was son of Hamilcar Barca, Carthaginian commander in the First Punic War. 178 pgs. the 3 acts are: Act I, Courtyard in the Home of Fabius Maximus in Rome: A June Evening in the Year 216 B.C.; Act II, Hannibal's Headquarters in a Temple about a Mile east of Rome; an hour later; and Act III, The same as Act II; the next morning.
