Kansas City: Andrews and McMeel Publishing,, 1979. Association Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR at front end page -" To Jim and Beth, with affectionate best wishes and prayers - & thanks. Ever devotedly in Notre Dame, Father Ted Hesburgh". . Important education and Civil Rights Association Copy. James Armsey, ( 1918-2008) was the Ford Foundation executive who oversaw grants to universities and colleges in the 1960s, with the only requirement that they had to raise matching funds from other sources. This change caused a number of them, including Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Emory University, Tulane University, and several major private colleges, to admit black students for the first time. Father Ted Hesburgh (1917-2015) was president of the University of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987, a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and one of the nations most influential figures in higher education, the Catholic Church, and national and international affairs. Fine, with scattered underlining and marginal markings and the Armsey's blindstamp at title page and last page of text, in a Near Fine dust jacket, top corner front flap price-clipped, and in Fine blue cloth slipcase. . NY: Harper & Brothers, 1933. Signed first edition. Hard cover in original cloth. Published NY: Harper & Brothers, 1933, first printing. Presentation to American journalist and historian Mark Sullivan (1874 - 1952), author of the six volume "Our Times". "For Mark Sullivan from Thomas W. Lamont, June 1933." Mark Sullivan was a titan of twentieth century journalism. Born on a farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1874, he was only in his late teens when he bought an interest in a local newspaper, the Phoenixville Republican, for $300. The profits from this investment funded his education at Harvard, where he earned bachelor's and law degrees. In the first decade of the century he was a muckraker in the mold of Ida Tarbell and Lincoln Steffens. His 1904 exposé on patent medicine quacks for Ladies' Home Journal helped stoke the public outrage that resulted in the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act two years later. He was a close friend of Herbert Hoover and…

Description:
Oxford: Printed by Leonard Lichfield, 1642 An extremely scarce 1st edition copy of Francis Potter's work. Potter (1594-1678) was a clergyman with a wide range of other interests. He was an early member of the Royal Society (admitted in 1663), experimenting with bees, theorising about blood transfusion and making instruments including a sundial. He developed a theory that the approximate square root of 666 - 25 - had a strong connection with catholic institutions. His first attempt to set this out in 1637 was described as a 'wonderful discovery' by Joseph Mede, whose 'judgement' is included in the work. This copy has been rebacked, relaying as much as possible of the spine, which has raised bands, red title label and the date at the base. The corners have been rebuilt. The boards are marbled with a stain on the rear board. Edges are scuffed. Internally there is the armorial bookplate of William Legge to the front pastedown endpaper. The endpaper joints have been repaired. Page edges are red. Contents:…
