Fine book in marbled paper-covered boards, with title on paper label on spine.  A small, limited edition - this is number 132 of 170 copies - that is approximately 7 ½ by 5 ½ inches. Printed by Gaylord Schanilec on Zerkall paper. The colophon indicates that book was hand-set in monotype Walbaum; marbled paper by Carol Scott; and bound by Franny Bannen and Lucy Graber. Twelve chapters with short, autobiographical statements by the Haitian author. The book is numbered and signed by both Danticat and Shanilec on the colophon page. Two small promotional brochures from Midnight Paper Sales are laid-in.

Spine darkened and boards slightly soiled and rubbed, bookplate on verso of title page but a very good copy internally near fine. Typical decorations by one of the Wiener Werkstatte / Wiener Secession leading artists.

The surviving 18 plates show life at a fashionable resort town, with scenes of people drinking the healing waters at the Spa Wells, swimming in the sea, dancing at the Ball Room, promenading on the Terrace, shopping at the Shoe Shop, borrowing books at the circulating Library, etc. The naked woman bathing in The Warm Bath is said to be the poet Mary Robinson, George IV's mistress, The poems are by Rowlandson's frequent collaborator William Combe, John Buonarotti Papworth and Francis Wrangham.Condition: Half red morocco, spine with five raised bands, gilt decoration, red buckram boards.
