Very minor rubbing to hinges and a small bump to the lower front board at the outer corner, but overall a beautiful clean copy of this classic. Among the very best of Rackham's work.

Beardsley's illustrations to Le Morte d'Arthur are a mix of knights and fauns, swans, fantasy figures, all in his "fin-de-siècle" style. This edition is the first to include all of the eleven designs that were omitted from the first edition.
Seeking to emulate the books of the Kelmscott Press John Dent commissioned Beardsley for 20 full-page drawings and about 100 smaller in-text designs as well as nearly 350 initial letters for Le Morte Darthur.
Beasley's chief model was his friend Burne-Jones. As he progressed his designs became almost a parody of the Gothic style. Upon learning that William Morris had :sorn a terrible oath against me for daring to bring out a book in this manner," Beasley replied, "while his work is a mere imitation of the old stud, mime is fresh and original." Very rare plate album by Irish landscape painter Frederick Calvert, complete with 24 "picturesque views" and in the original binding. Calvert moved to England in 1815 and, besides painting, produced a number of print albums and model books, a.o. The young artist's instructor (London, Hodgson and Co., 1823) and Rural scenery (London, Hodgson and Co., ca. 1825). He designed plates for Picturesque views ... in Staffordshire and Shropshire (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830-1831), and for A new and compendious history, of the county of Warwick (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830). Perhaps his most famous work was for The Isle of Wight illustrated (1846).

My Sister Life was written in the summer before the 1917 October Revolution, it was very well received and established him as a genius of Russian poetry. The English translation was done by Mark Rudman. The acclaimed Russian born artist, Yuro Kuyper provides 6 etchings for the publication, printed on Hannemule paper in Paris. The paper used for the text was hand-made by H. M. P. Mill in Connecticut to resemble the sort of stock produced in 1920's Russia, even incorporating bits of Russain newspapers with rags and cotton pulp. The book is in near fine condition, with the only defect being some sunning to the spinea. The slipcase in VG or better, showing some sunning.
