Philadelphia: George W. Jacobs, 1909. First Edition. Hardcover. Used - Good/No Jacket. Original navy blue cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine only. Part of the American Crisis Biography series. A rare first edition, published in September, 1909. No other printings listed. Ex-library with library markings. Call number on the spine and inside front cover. City Library property stamp on title page and page 99. Accession number 56 is on page 99 and the inside back cover. Front and back hinges have been repaired with cloth tape. Edited by Ellis Paxson Oberholtzer, Ph. D. Black and white picture of John Brown with his signature on frontispiece. Tissue cover has a tear. Tanned shadow of previous card pocket on inside back cover and facing endpage. Small pieces of cloth missing at top and bottom of the spine. Gilt top edge. Bottom corners worn to board.
